I don't think it's an offensive comment. I actually kept my hair dark for a year since it made me feel closer to my daughters. Don't know why, but it did. Now I'm all blonde and I get more questuions and stares than I like. But, even blonde I found out I still feel very close to them.

It just goes to show you how some people either don't think before they speak or just don't get it. Thankfully the Aunt set him straight and he's think twice before inserting his foot in his mouth again. When our son was found to need glasses at about 14 months old. my sister in law asked me if the eye dr had discussed having LASIX surgery done? I was speechless!!!!!!!.

Rose, I have to say it always makes me sad to hear about family members like this. It also makes me truly appreciate my family. I'm glad that you and your aunt stood up and said something. It's just AWFUL! *big hugs*

Isn't it strange that some people think your children should "match" you--As if you were having a child for the rest of the world to see they are yours. Amazingly enough I am amazed that many times I can tell if a child is someone's son or daughter in the way they treat treat their child more than by mere apperances.

When we were in the process before our son came home we were concerned what some of our older relatives might say or react towards our son. After they met him there were no worries. They all melted to the little boy with his smile.

When we adopted our son we lived in "the city" with all of it's divirsity and a huge variety of people. Then we moved out to the Burbs and at first I was a little concerned about or son not fitting in but in the 2 years we have been here the neighbor kids all are getting along great. It can be a worry what people say but remember you can't control them but you can ignore them. And once they meet your child my guess is the stupid comments will tend to cease unless that person is completely clueless.

Unbelievable! I wonder what he would say if he saw me with my bio daughter...my hair is black, I have green eyes...my daughter is blond (very blond) with blue eyes. Looks nothing like me. My son from Guatemala has the same hair color as I do. People just amaze me by the stupid things they say. It's even worse when it comes from family. Sorry you had to deal with this.
