Question Guatemalan Themed Boys Room Ideas ???

I would like have a Guatemalan feel to do our son's room. Any ideas I am at a loss. All suggestions welcome. I would like it to celebrate his heritage.

Thanks for your insight.

I wouldn't say our boys' room has a Guatemalan theme, but I did accent their room with items from Guatemala. Here are some pics.

If I had knows how much I was going to love everything, I would have picked up more stuff in GC.

I kept Jake's room simple with primary colors but I did do a mural overlooking his crib. I tell him it's his guardian angel watching over him while he sleeps.
My neighbor is an illustrator and painted the Quetzal for us.
I really love it and so does Jake.

Hi,

I chose my son's room colors from a postcard of a building in Guatemala. The walls were bright blue and the trim was navy blue. I then accented it with wooden Guatemalan masks I bought online and made his crib bedding and diaper basket cover out of Guatemalan fabric (also ordered online). I also bought the wooden letters from Guatemala and had them on top of the window ledge.

I absolutely loved it and was so sad when we moved a year later.

Good luck.

We used a popular zoo/safari bedding set and then painted a sky and the bottom half is jungle. Then we painted in volcanoes and birds. I picked up post cards from Guat. and framed them. I also have some wall hangings.

I have the colorful letters that spell his name, a Guat tapestry hanging, and I found two really cool jungle theme watercolor pictures done by an artist in Guatemala on Ebay. I am going to get him some new bedding to match when he is out of the toddler bed. I have a feeling I will be adding more things soon. Good luck!

I am planning Eli's room now. I thought about baby rainforest animals. I thought that would be so neat, but I've almost decided against it - only because I found some neat fabric and a clock I want to build the room around.

I also love the chicken bus idea someone else had. They are so bright and cute. You could do the wall hangings, the letters, etc. We have some I brought home from Guatemala on the top of Rosie's bookshelf and she's obsessed with them. Although I won't let her play with them (breakable, not sure about the paint...)

Good luck and have fun!

I don't have a picture of Mario's room to post but I also hung a tapestry in Mario's room similar to the one Carla posted in the picture for Shay's room. He loves to look at it and point to all the embroidered animals and people. I think he likes it because it is so bright and colorful. The tapestry is the one thing I am most glad I brought back from Guatemala. I also brought back the painted letters from Guatemala and he likes to look at those too.

We did a rainforest theme and added some Diego (Go Diego Go) items and bright frogs. We plan on getting some more specific Guatemala items on our visit trip. And I'd like to add a large picture or painting if I can con an artsy friend of a Mayan temple....These were taken awhile back but you get the idea. (also have several of the Fisherprice rainforest items--pack n play, mobiles etc.) Hope Kaiden likes it :-)
