Red face Dumb Question

This is probably the dumbest question ever but I am going to ask anyway !! I started to notice this summer after my daughter (adopted from guat) had been in the sun that her face started getting blotchy. It still is a little but not as much as it was in the summer. Anyone else have this , know what it is or what to do about it ???? TIA

Ava had a few lighter spots on her face last summer. A friend of ours, who happens to be a dermatologist, took a look at it and said it was some sort of eczema. We used hydrocortisone on it for a few days and it helped a lot.

It didn't happen at all this summer.

Our daughter has a lighter spot on one side of her face that I noticed on our visit trip when she was 3 mo old. it is still there, & I think it was a bit more noticable this summer.

Are your daughter's spots dry patches? Or just discolorations? I'm wondering if we should take ours to the derma. as well.

Okay, I just asked another group of Guat parents this same question last week, so it's NOT a dumb question.

I've found out that it's actually very common in all children, but it just shows more on children with darker skin. It can be a kind of eczema or a type of fungus. We did a little research before we took Alex to the doc and found some home remedies to see if they would work. One suggested was to rinse the spot with dandruff shampoo (I guess there is something in there that works?). Well, after a couple of days, the splotchy spots are gone, so it worked!

My son has the same thing. It is very pronounced in the summer when his skin is darker because of his suntan. It doesn't bother him and I use lotion on it at night because it is a little drier than the rest of his skin. A good friend, who is a pediatrician, said that it's called pityriasis alba. You can look it up online to get info!

My bio son has this and the dermatologist said it is a type of eczema. I was told to double up the sunscreen and try to avoid letting it get tanned. Sun does make it worse. The DR said it would last until the teen years but my son's seemed better this year so...who knows. A side note---someone told me not to use hydrocortizone on the face...(don't know if its true) the reasoning was it breaks down collagen...Who knows????

NOT a dumb question!

My dd (age 3) had the same very noticable blotches this summer. It is less pronounced now that the tan is fading but I am so glad you asked, now I can do some research!
Thanks

When Olivia is in the sun her face gets sort of reddish splotches and little bumps. As soon as winter comes it clears up.
