OT - Swing recommendations

We just got home with our son. He is 8 months old and weighs almost 21 pounds.

Does anyone have a swing they love and could recommend? I'd prefer one that we can use for a while (e.g. for babies 25+ pounds).

Thanks so much!

At that age, it's unlikely your little one is going to want to be in a swing much. Usually, by the time they're sitting up and starting to crawl, they won't tolerate being stuck in a swing for long. Have you considered a jumperoo or johnny-jump-up. They're more interactive and older babies seem to like them better.

I agree with Caroline. We brought our DD home at 9 months and she loved the jumperoo! She used it for a couple of months until she really started cruising around furniture then she didn't want to be stuck in one place any more. I don't think she would have tolerated the swing at all. Good luck

I agree too. I can't imagine Myah sitting in a swing now at 8 months, she's only like 15 pounds. She is way to active right now. I know my neighbor Jack who is 10 months, pretty much was done with his swing when he could sit up on his own because it then he could sit up and almost TIP it, he was a little monster about it though, lol.

I like the FP ones with the bar coming off the back of the seat. Some of the compact table top ones are not up to the job when children get heavier and barely move. Also if you have a swing with 4 bars/styles in the frame the baby will grab the bars/styles up front and stop the swing. They do this very soon 6 months and up. Anna

I agree, my girls used the jumperoo way longer then the swing. Up till they out grew it by weight and they were very sad about it. Anna

We didn't get a swing but I regretted it. Mikayla was delayed and loved the swing. We put her in it at my mom and dads, they had one from our son and in FLoridat when she 10 months old and she loved it and it really relaxed her. So if you think they will like it GO for it.

Thanks for all of the posts. My son is crawling, but he loves motion. I was hoping I could put him in a swing to occupy him while I put my other son to bed (he's almost 3). For my older son, it only takes about 15-20 minutes to get him to bed, so my younger son would not be in the swing for long.

I do appreciate all of the posts. I didn't think about him being bored in it - only that he would love the motion. So, now I'll rethink this issue and maybe come up with something different.

My husband travels a lot and I need a way to occupy my little 8 month guy for a few minutes a bed time.... Any other suggestions are very MUCH appreciated.

Thanks so much!!

Devon came home at 8 months and LOVED the Baby Einstein jumper. She would go to town in there! It was great until DS (4.5) wanted to join in on the fun and got in there and broke one of the springs

I have that aquarium swing that can swing front to back or side to side from DS but it really did not amuse Devon nearly as much.

I think a jumper or an exersaucer will be your best bet.

I agree with Tara that a Jumperoo or Exersaucer would be a great bet. We had both for Mikayla and she loved each of them and they were the BEST buy for us ever. It bought me time to do things like dishes LOL and sweep the floor knowing that she was "safe." So I would consider one of those!
