She is usually a BIG children's advocate and she is pregnant right now with twins. I do not have a baby waiting, but I am an adoptive mom, social worker, and have friends who are waiting. yes please please contact her. I just emailed her. We need people in the media to now show OUR side of the story. IN addition to contacting our govt officials we need to bend the ear of any journalistic figures who is willing to share our side of the story. Contact your local papers/ tv affiliates whoever you can think of and get them on this bandwagon.

Nancy, I and another 1,499 US families who are currently adopting children from Guatemala desperately need your voice to help us! The Guatemalan President has stated he will not allow any in-process adoption cases to proceed as of 1/1/08 when Guatemala implements the Hague. He has taken a very controversial and uncaring stance and the US DOS is not taking action to protect US families and prevent this from happening. I suspect that you will be getting lots of emails from adoptive parents on this matter. What President Berger is proposing to do by not grandfathering cases in process under exising laws and processflow directly violates the Hague itself! His proposal still needs to be approved by the Guatemalan Congress and the US can definitely strongly influence this decision, but is not apparently willing to do so. PLEASE HELP!!!
Most of us adoptive parents have already visited our kids in Guatemala and have been blessed to have the opportunity to spend days or weeks with them. Some of us are even living there temporarily fostering our children. How can anyone ask us to not view or feel for these children as ours simply because all the red tape has not been processed yet? How can anyone ask us to sit and let these children be left behind as of 1/1/08 if what President Berger proposes is passed as law? You are a mother and can put a caring and sympathetic appeal to our fight. All we are asking is to bring our children home! We need the Hague implementation to allow for in-process cases to be grandfathered. We also need a SMOOTH transition when the Hague is implemented so that adoptions from Guatemala in the US can continue.
