Question DS is shaky when he wakes up????

In the morning and after naps my DS's legs and arms are a little shaky. Is this normal? I asked the Dr. and she didn't seem too concerned, but no explanation. Has anyone else experienced this?

My daughter, 19 months old, is the same way!!! She's so shaky and it takes about 2-4 minutes for her to get settled. She's fine in every other way, so I never asked the Ped about it.

Ben does this as well. Especially when he wakes up from a deep sleep or startles awake. It goes away shortly, so I don't worry about it. I just figure that it is his temperment since he is always kind-of shaky, jumpy, and high-strung!!!

Wow!!! I thought J.R. was the only one that did that. I've been telling the doctor about it for a while, she doesn't think anything of it. His legs and arms shake for the same amount of time. It's strange that several others are saying their children do this!

My daughter does this too!! I figured she just wasn't "awake" yet. She can't even walk without falling for about 3-5 minutes!!

Oh my, I thought Connor was the only kid that did this!!! He's so shaky that if he falls asleep and then you pick him up to carry him to bed (which is often b/c our BR's are upstairs), he throws both arms out waving them crazy and fast like he's calling in a plan or something! And if you're trying to wake him up, better give him a bit. It always takes him a bit to get his bearings

My boys did this when they were little too. It's that weak feeling we get as adults when waking up from sleep. However, kids just show it more, I assume because their bodies are still growing and not yet strong enough. It goes away as they get older and develop more muscle control and better coordination.

Am I the only adult who does this? I just figured it's completely normal cause I've always been like that, especially if I wake up suddenly from something startled me or from a deep sleep kind of fast. But even on regular wake up days I feel a little shaky until I'm "all the way awake". Maybe try letting your little one lay still in the crib for alittle while before getting them up. That way they have a chance to get used to their surroundings, stretch and move slowly instead of calling on muscles and brain all at the same time.

Matty does it too, almost like he's shivering, but stronger. It always goes away within a few minutes.

Hmmm, could it be low blood sugar? My husband is diabetic and he gets shaky when his sugar gets too low. I don't mean to insinuate that anyone is diabetic! Everyone gets low blood sugar, especially kids.

So funny I was also starting to get a little concren because 18 month old dd does this. Out of all 7 kids she is the only one that has done this. She also hates to have her back scratched, she cringes almost like it hurts, yet she likes to have it rubbed-just not scratched so I know it can not actually hurt. SHe is a major snuggle bug and you can scratch her head, arms, legs and she loves-but she gets so irritated if you scratch her back. I was starting to think the shaky legs and this were related, guess not.

Thanks for bringing this topic up.

No need to worry ... this is completely normal. I worried when my older kids were babes and our pediatrician explained it and said it is all very normal.

Scarlet,
What did she say when she explained it?

Thank you all for your reassurance. I am glad that I am not the only one, but am still curious as to why this happens.

Sorry - I hit post reply twice!!!!
