anyone looking at other countries for 2nd adoption?

We adopted our daughter from Guatemala 2 yrs ago and hope to adopt again. I need more little feet in our home.
We have tried domestic and failed twice. I am now realizing I am probably too late for Guatemala, we were told that when we started again and were sent to domestic. So now, I return to international. I am wondering if any of you who have adopted once or are in the process, have any plans to adopt again and if so what country and why? I have just started looking and am considering Ethopia or Peru.
Any thoughts,
Julie

We are considering Vietnam and Ethiopia. I would like to do both. But DH says let's do one, and see how we're doing. Then maybe a third one.

As for why - they are both countries that we qualify for. We are in our 40s, have only been married for three years. Also we have "mixed" cititzenship. DH is German. So we're not eligible for some of the other countries. Also the programs are relatively low risk, since the children are already legally available for adoption. I am pretty risk adverse these days. Also you generally bring your child home within a few months after receiving your referral. Most of the wait involves waiting for your referral.

Best wishes with your next journey!

I'm also considering Ethiopia. My first choice is Guatemala, but I have a distinct feeling that it won't be an option when I'm ready to start again. Russia is also still high on my list.

Not really interested in any other countries at this time.
We had to be honest and say a black child (whether they be African or from Haiti, etc) would not work in our family. Too much prejudice against them in our extended family and it wouldnt be fair for a little child to try to change 1950's thinking. Plus for us, there are many AA children available here in our state.
IF we would adopt again and it couldnt be from Guat, I would try domestic.

If Guatemala closes and and we cannot adopt again from there then our choices are Vietnam, Ethiopia, and our agency is starting Rawanda program also. I am not big on plane travel so I am not looking forward to that part of it, but I can handle flying for a long flight if it means another child.

My in laws are also prejudice, but if they chose to be that way towards their grandchild and not change their views then we will address the matter when the time is right. If it means no contact then so be it. I am not that fond of them anyway and they have already made some racist comments about Hispanics so it may happen even before we start another adoption.

We adopted our daughter domestically. DH really wants to go to another country for #2 -- he really wants the experience of traveling, seeing a new place, etc. as well as adding to our family. I would be okay with domestic again, although I'm not sure I want to do the profile books, agonizing over when we will be chosen, the possibility of failed matches, etc. At this time, we are expecting we will only be open to girls so that limits us as some countries do not allow gender selection. Lots could change, though, as we are probably at least 2 or more likely 3 years from being able to begin again in earnest.

We are considering/researching Ethiopia, Haiti, (although we do not currently meet their requirements, I have heard their requirements may be changing so we will see what that brings), Vietnam, and a few other places. Haiti would probably be my first choice, Vietnam DH's first.

Right now, we are just working on doing some necessary things to our home, saving up the money to do them one at a time. When those things are done then we will begin saving for the adoption. We will just keep our eyes and ears open for programs that seem like they might fit us, so we'll be as "narrowed-down" as possible when we finally do get the money to begin.

Being as I am your best friend you already know that we are adopting from Vietnam.
But, I have another friend that just accepted a sibling group from Ethiopia in July and they are suppose to be home somewhere around Christmas.
Great timeline!
Email me about the fair and give A a hug & kiss.

We will be starting Vietnam in the next couple months. We are most interested in China and Vietnam, but we will request a boy this go around, so Vietnam is the better choice right now.
