Infant Video Monitors

Our son is 13 1/2 months old and we are thinking about getting a video monitor. I think it would be nice to have because we have a 2 story house. Does anyone have one. Is it worth it? What kind did you get?

Thanks!
Shelly

We have one, and used it all of the time with #1 and not an ounce for #2! We get a lot of static on it, so while the pic is pretty clear it's about useless as a monitor to actually hear anything on.

A friend of ours found it invaluable with one of her children, who was known for trying to climb out of bed. They could keep an eye on her and make sure she was safe.

We got ours as a gift from that friend. I am not sure if they're really worth the money, to be honest. They are pretty pricey.

We absolutely love ours its the Handheld Color Video Monitor w/a 2.5" screen - here are the features:

900 MHz technology for superior clarity and range, two channel selection, Night vision allows parent to see baby in darkened room, Belt clip and flip stand, Rechargeable battery lasts up to 10 hours, Power saver feature times out after 3 minutes, LED Sound lights, Video on/off button for audio only option at night, 2 A/C adaptors, table top or wall mounted options, low battery indicator

You can hear every single breath he takes! Worth it for us.

We had a video monitor for Justin, who came home from Guatemala at 10 1/2 months old. It was a great thing to have as I could see him if he stirred during the night and could make sure he was safe. I liked being able to look at the monitor during the night to look in on him. I don't remember which brand we had, but I would definitely get another one if we adopt again.

We LOVE ours. The brand is Summer and has about a 2 inch screen and is still portable...not a big one...more the size of a regular monitor. We've had ours over a year now and have had no problems at all with it. If ours ever broke or anything, we would buy another video monitor that day! For us it is DEFINITELY worth the money.

We have a Motorola cordless phone system in our home with a base station. They make a camera unit that ties in to the system that you can access on any of the phones in the system. The great thing is that it has IR capability so you can see in a dark room. Panasonic also has a phone system that has the camera units too. The great thing is after the baby is grown you can use it in other areas to monitor things.

We have the same one that Judy has and we absolutely love it! Our son was having sleep issues and it was great to be able to look at the screen and know that he was ok.

My SIL swears by hers.

The important thing to remember, though, is to save the receipt so you can see how the one you buy works in your home. Apparently they can interfere with cordless phone frequencies, etc., so one that works great for a friend might not work well at all in your house.

I have a Mobi cam. The pic is not very big, but it comes through very clear. Its very handy to have, especially for a worry-wart like me.

I absolutely love ours!! We also have the Summer infant one w/ the 2.5" screen (there are 2 similar versions, one has a smaller screen).

Since Jackson will be home soon I just purchased one by Bebe that has an auto scan feature - 2 cameras, 1 handheld base. I still prefer some of the features of the Summer one, but I want the 2 room auto scan.

Definitely one of those many things that were out of our price range. We just have the regular monitor and honestly don't use it very much since our house is so small.

love ours! We have a Summer handheld. We had one of these but needed to get another with #2. It allows us to watch our little guys and see what they are doing. Son #1 is not a good sleeper and if we can see him before he gets out of bed, we can usually get him to stay in bed and go back to sleep. We have 2 cameras and one monitor with 2 different channels....LOVE IT!

Thank you for your comments

Thank you for all your comments. We got a video monitor today and love it already! My dh and I were amazed that our son played quietly in his crib for 20 minutes prior to going to sleep for his afternoon nap. I knew he played for a little bit but not that long!

So far we are really glad we bought it.
