You could try this - it worked like a charm for my girlfriend - she was afraid her son would actually get a bite out of the crib and choke! LOL!

http://www.greatbabyproducts.com/Cri.../prin-5205.htm

At least it's your crib. We were standing in church one day and my 4 year old (yes 4!) leaned over and put his mouth on the back of the pew (it was RIGHT at mouth level, what was he supposed to do?!) and left a small bite mark! I was MORTIFIED!!!

there are crib bar shields that work great.
the one that gets me is when julian starts gnawing away at the metal bar in front of the seat we use when we eat out or at a friend's house. oh the noise!!

This is something out there called Bitter Apple...

HAHAHAHA

Just kidding... i used that for my animals...

I know there is a plastic gaurd that you can put on your cribs to stop the chewing on wood.

Good Luck

Hi Amy,
My Little one also did that, I brought one of those plastic crib guards, it is applied to the crib railing and protects the wood. It also stayed in place pretty well, my second daughter is now trying to eat the crib. Maybe I should feed them more!!!!

Oh Yeah! Peter Jack did this too! Use the plastic bar protectors, they worked just fine. He stopped after a couple of weeks, he simply didn't pay any mind to it anymore.

Oh yes. I have two former beavers. My older son and Lauren both chewed on the headboard part. Of course not the side rails that had the guards on them!

No suggestions though. With both of mine it was short lived phase - thank goodness! (Though the damage Lauren did to a borrowed crib was not so good!)

Spencer chewed on his crib, too. I created my own solution by cutting fleece to fit. An intack piece for the top. Then, I cut slits and tied it around each slate. He didn't like chewing on that, so he eventually stopped.

Hi, in addition to all of the above, lol, everytime you see your little one bitting on the crib, simply hand them another object to bite on, a teether or age appropriate toy. Re-direction works really well. You may need to invest in more teethers, stacking cups, soft books, different things that your little one can safely bite and ease the pain of her gums and the teeth coming in.

Smile My son was a beaver...

...except he didn't bite his crib. He ate my LIVING ROOM furniture (Ugh!) What a phase that was. No matter what I gave him or steered him toward, he would head back to biting my armchair or side tables. They're all antiques, mind you. It drove DH and I absolutely nuts. He would look right at us as he snuck over and nibbled. After a while, I think the little stinker might have been doing it to make us crazy ;-) We tried to see if the crib teethers would fit around the edges of our tables, but that didn't work.

People used to absolutely crack up when they saw all the teeth marks and asked "who did that"? They all have infants of their OWN now...(hee, hee, hee).

Funny thing is my labrador retriever NEVER chewed any of my furniture.

We laugh now, but it wasn't funny then . I wish I had some good advice for you, but we never figured it out. He just grew out of it.
Take care,
Kris

biting

Well, would you rather have the crib or your shoulder?? Haha. Our little on chomped down on my shoulder. She tried to chomp on my toes every now and then too. Good grief. Happen to anyone else?

My guy bit down hard on my big toe one night when I had fallen asleep on the couch (OUCH!!!!) I yelped and hopped up so fast...poor little guy was scared to death.

DH still tells people it was one of the funniest things he has ever seen.

I actually asked the same question in October....Eli actually has holes in his crib. One day I was brushing his teeth, and I had to floss them b/c there was some meat stuck in them..>I kept thinking, "when did we eat THIS?" Well....when I got it out, it was wood grains. yum He won't stop. I have tied blankets all around, but he has taken to eating the slats, which I can't control. I don't get it. He also eats books. I'm sad b/c this crib made it through 2 children unscathed, and Eli ruined it in a week oh well. If I could rewind time, I wouldn't have gotten such an expensive crib.

Unfortunately, my daughter learned (quickly!) how to remove the protectors - the crib is trashed!

If the crib is yours and you don't mind, I would suggest finding a way to permanently affix the protectors (screws, glue, really strong velcro?). My little one would just pluck the protectors right off and toss them around the room!

Fortunately, the crib chewing passed quickly but she continues (at age 3) to put everything in her mouth! She even takes little pieces of tissue and pops it into her mouth like a snack - wierd, huh? Oh well...

Good luck with your little beaver!

SarahIda
