What age to kids start taking 1 long nap instead of 2 naps?

OK Kirsten is 11 1/2 months old and I have noticed recently her naps that used to be 15-20 minutes started getting longer to 40 or 45 minutes and recently they have been 1.5 -2 hours. She has started fighting her morning nap and I was wondering at what age to kids switch from 2 naps to 1 nap a day? She just seems like if she doesn't get 2 naps a day she is a crab by 6pm...

Thanks!

Our son changed to 1 long nap around 15 months. He really had no choice because he started daycare and they only did one mid-day nap. He transitioned very easily.

I have been fortunate that both my boys have always been big nap kids...from about 9 months or so. I know my SIL still has the 2 nap thing going on and my nephew is the same age. I think it all depends on the child and individual family schedule.

Our son swtiched to one nap around 11 months. He is now 19 months and naps anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 hours in the early afternoon. Good luck in your transition.

DS started taking just one long nap in the afternoon at around 11 months though now at 17 months he will occassionaly take a morning nap on the weekends. At his daycare they stop the am nap when they transition from infant to toddler room. Initially he would barely stay awake until lunchtime - he would take a quick 15 minute nap and then would be good until the pm nap. Good luck - Barbara

Yes our son started preschool on Monday and we had no choice to switch either. He is 14 months and they have nap time from 12-3 every day. He used to sleep about 2 hours in morning and 2 in late afternoon.

1 long nap

Our son went to one long nap at 13-14months when they moved him to the toddler room at daycare rather than the infant room where they took two naps a day.
