Ok, so my topic today seems random....but we are selling our house, and I freak out about buying other people's homes. dh thinks I'm crazy, but IF haunted houses truly exist, I don't want one. lol! SO, do you believe?
*edited to add...by all means, share your story....as creeped out as I am....they are interesting!* Last edited by mommytoEli : 08-21-2007 at 11:38 AM. |

Oh Yes certainly. Our first home we lived there for 8 years. It just got worse as time went on. I can share many stories with you. It especially got worse when my DD was born. The "ghost" always bothered her. I would go in her room in the middle of the night and her lights were on. She was only 3 mos old. No one else in the house to leave them on. I would hear toys playing oover the monitor at night. She was still too small to get out of her crib. Many other instances to go into. The "ghosts" also got really irritated when we decided to move. They would play many tricks on us and my DD who was 3 refused to stay there while we were moving.

Lets just say the house we live in now, which I love dearly, well after we bought it and had a few bumps we did some digging....turns out we live in the first funeral home in the town. It was built as a funeral home in the 1920's and also the undertaker lived there with his family.
We've had many strange occurances and its fun when skeptic family stays overnight and something happens.

If I found out it had been IN my home...I would have died.....ahhhh....I'm freaking out. *mommytoEli makes mental note to self to ask people about their homes before sleeping over* ![]() |

When I saw your post I thought of a similar one from several months ago, regarding believing in ghosts. Here is the link:

Good question.. Yeah, my grandmother's house was haunted. Footsteps... thud and bumps... things that went mysteriously missing and then turned up later in odd places... photos turned backward... really and truly we had all of it.
I didn't learn 'til later that these were classic signs of a haunting...

Our old home was about 1/2 a block from the cemetary. It was built by a doctor in the 1930's.

I see dead people!!!! Woooooooooo.
OK not really, but I just love the movie "The Sixth Sense". I've never seen a ghost, but I heard one once. OK, I'm not really sure what I heard. But here's the story... Once upon a time there was a beautiful young woman named Laura Larue, who rented the ground floor studio in-law unit from an older couple in an old Victorian house in San Francisco. One foggy night, when the owners were away on vacation, she awoke in the middle of the night to the sound of the floor boards creaking above her, and what sounded like footsteps. At first Laura thought the owners had returned early from their vacation, so she looked out her window, but didn't see their car parked in it's usual spot. So she creeped up the stairs to the door that connected her unit to the house above to listen. And as she was standing there in her nightgown with her ear pressed against the door, which by the way was usually unlocked, she heard someone breathing heavily on the other side of the door. And then the door knob suddenly rattled. Well Laura hightailed it down those stairs and out the back door (her front door) and ran in her nightgown and bare feet to her neighbor's house (this was before the days of cell phones). After Laura calmed down enough to actually talk, she explained that someone had broken into the house. She and the neighbor called the police and watched the house. And never say anyone exit. The police came. No sign of forced entry. They went into the house through Laura's unit. All the doors and windows were locked from the inside. When the owners returned, Laura told them about her "evening visitor". They said, "oh yeah. We hear the ghost walking around too sometimes. The house is haunted ya know". Laura moved. End of story! Wooooooooooo!!!!!

Similar to MNStarr's house, my DH's grandfather was an undertaker and his grandparents home was the funeral home. The embalming was down in the basement. My husband and his siblings and cousins talk about visiting Grandpa and Grandma and playing hide and seek in the caskets! ![]()

This is fascinating. I just read the older "Ghosts" thread and am amazed at the number of people with these experiences. WOW!!!
I love the TAPS show and all of those scary places type shows. I know though that I would have been totally freaked out and when it comes down to it, I think that I would RUN.

If you have any fears when you walk the house then don't write them off, lol. It's always good when buying a home to see the neighborhood at night, nightlife of your neighborhood, but if you can see the inside of the house at night too, you will be able to walk each room and all closets, basements, lol, etc and see if any of them scare you.
Weather haunted or not, if any of them scare you, lol, just like the cementary, you don't want to move in. I'm single and have been living on my own since 18 and I get scared easy, lol, so it's not good to have your mind, repeatedly get scared and become prone to worry. Also, there have been two homes of mine that were built on land in two different states and I had lots of fears in those two homes. And, I believe in God and prayer but still I'd get scared, lol, finally, I got so frustrated, that every time I felt fear, I just thought, God is in control and you cannot harm me, and that helped my mind begin to get rid of the fear and worry, because I was no longer dwelling on it, however, I did move from that home, to Ohio, to a condo there, And, i loved it!!! And, since then I have not had any more nights or days of feeling the fear. When I came to Guatemala to foster, I was a little scared about the places here, but I have lived in 6 different homes/locations, now and I can honestly say that in every home, I have felt 100% peace, the only scares here, are the volcanoes, earthquakes, cannons, firecrackers, etc. Also, every home I go into, I pray that God will bless it and that guardian angels or God will protect the home and me and my baby. ok - I'm not from the Guatamala Board but I couldn't resist jumping into this topic!
We moved into our home about 9 years ago. I always felt a draft in my kitchen but never thought anything of it. Then one day my sister in law was over & we put the kids down for a nap. She put her dd in one room & I put my son in his room. She tried to close the door that lead from the hallway to the kitchen & she had a "tug of war" with ???. Someone/thing was not letting her close the door. She thought that maybe it was a rug or something but there was nothing there...she screamed & came running to the den. Then months later she saw a tall thin man sitting at the head of my dining room table. SHE FREAKED. Years later, my brother was walking past the dining room & saw a tall thin man standing in my dining room. He FREAKED!! He was the biggest sceptic & after that sighting he wasn't. So I had my house blessed & things seemed to have calmed down. I later found out that the previous ownder of the house had a massive heart attack & died on the kitchen floor more or less where I would feel the draft.... My DD says that there is a ghost in her room. I'm not sure exactly what she's seeing though. She say that the ghosts tells her things. This has started to happen alot more lately. I'm not sure if it's her imagination though. When I ask her what he looks like she says he's white with pink eyes.... SCARY!! Needless to say, she sleeps in our room. I personally have only witnessed doors closing & shadows.
