GUAT PARENTS: (EVERYONE VOTE!!)Were you asked for "extra" money during your adoption?

Ok....I am curious. If you were asked for extra money for your adoption for whatever reason( as in...unexpected expenses not spelled out in your contract and not mentioned....legitimate expenses<i.e. medical care, additional foster fees, etc...> or not) , please vote. Do not list agencies or attorneys, please please do not fight. I really don't want to battle over whether the fees are ok.....I just want
to see how common this is. In order to get a clear picture of what percentage of parents HERE are asked for more money, I ask that everyone vote, even if you were asked for NOTHING extra. If you have just started, and have not been asked for anything extra, please vote "other." THANKS!

(editing to add: the new dna requirement would not be considered "addional fees" as this is a new requirement.)

I was not asked for any additional money nor was there any "discussion" about how extra money could make our process go quicker.

We do not have our daughter home yet but are in PGN and have not been asked for extra money so far. I did ask our agency before we signed with them if they charge extra foster care fees after 6 months and they said no. So I am not expecting any more fees.

I was not asked for anything extra, but we did have to pay for the additional vaccines required by the embassy so in a way we were, but it was a new requirement. I think that my facilliatator could/should have paid the extra $105, but it was an US embassy requirement.

So I voted asked for nothing extra - hope I did it right!

Extra $$

The only "extra" expense has been for the lab fee of the *NEW* 2nd DNA test required by the embassy.

We were asked for an extra $1,000.00. They said the attorney fee went up again. We were also charged for far too many extra shipping charges.

We weren't asked for "more" money as foster fees after the first 6 months were in our contract.... BUT, we never expected it to be in PGN for now 7 months so we've been paying foster fees for two girls since Feb. Not "asked" for more money but now paying way more than we had planned.

We were never asked for any extra money at all. After 2 processes that went over a year each I at least thought they would bug us for more fostering fees (even though that wasnt in our contract) but it never came up.

3 adoptions, all with the same agency and no hidden costs. Granted, we're still not home with them all, but we've never been asked for anything more, even in all this time.

Even though they could have asked, according to our contract...

We were not asked for extra foster care money, even though our contract covered foster care for only 8 months. Our daughter was in care for 11 months, and when I asked our agency, they advised, don't mention it to the lawyer, and see if they mention it... they didn't say a thing about it. They were just glad (as were we) that our process was finally over.

I was not asked for any extra money. Like some previous posters, I had in my contract foster care fees after 6 months and was not asked to pay them. Also a few small fees, like the embassy medical exam and something else (I can't remember right now) I did not have to pay even though my agency said I needed to take the money on my pickup trip, the attorney said they were included in his fees.

We were asked for extra $ as the attorney fees went up significantly just days before we received our referals. Since we had two referrals it was significant. They did warn us it was coming and there were disclaimers in the contract. Still no fun if you are one of the first to pay the new fees. Anna

We were not asked for extra money for either adoption. As a matter of fact, when we received our final bill for Bryce, it was lower than we expected, and if I remember correctly, we were told that we were not being charged for two months of foster care that we didn't use.

Sofie's attorney did ask us to donate money to an orphanage that he is supposedly starting, but it wasn't an added fee for Sofie's adoption, and we didn't donate anything.
