Which diapers to buy?..

I am a first time mom, have never even looked at diapers before, never had a reason to, how intimidating they can be! LOL I went to Target yesterday and had a ball looking at all the baby stuff, but then came the diaper isle!! I was totally lost trying to figure out which type or brand we may need? Any experienced mommies can you help? TIA

Its really personal preference I think. I tend to go for pampers or huggies - whichever I find a good deal on when Im in need. I personally dont like Luvs but others do. Ive never tried store brand.

There have been a number of threads about the pros and cons for each type of diaper. First, though, look at the weight restrictions for each one. Find the one that has the biggest weight range that your daughter is in. I would buy one package of each and start trying them.
I have found for Aidan, that Pampers are not the best for him- they shed and he ends up with white fuzzies all over his bottom- I don't like it. Huggies has a number of varieties, but I have to stay with snug and dry variety of mzium coverage. Aidan goes through a case of size 4 diapers in a week and half. Thank goodness we are going to start potty training in a couple of months, the cost of diapers is killing me.

Love to you,
Deb

Well it depends on what fits the baby better and does not leak. LUVS state that they do not leak. I could not use them on my DD because they leaked all the time. My neice could only wear HUggies she got rashes from Pampers.

FOr my DS I am stocking up and buying various brands when I find a sale. So whatever works and is cheapest I will go with that.

Hope that helps!

Parents Choice for these reasons...

Saved almost $8.oo a week compared to Pampers and Huggies X 4, that is quite a savings per month.

In my opinion; I think they are very comparable with the name brand for absorbency and softness.

I don't like to spend a fortune on diapers, so I have tried some "off" brands. Luvs were not good! The best off-brand diapers I have found are "White Cloud" at wal-mart. I just tried targets cheap off-brand, and they leak and are terrible. If you want to save some$$$$ try the white cloud. I tried them after researching for good inexpensive diapers .

I used to buy all the name brands until my second child came along. Also, my daughter is special needs and we get a discount from our insurance for generic brands. Out of the name brands I like Pampers. I do not like huggies at all as others will tell you they do. It really is a personal preference. I think huggies fit too tight. We tried generic from Walmart and I didn't like them. Then I did generic at Walgreens and didn't like them. Now the only generic diapers I will buy are CVS brand. I LOVE them. However, again this is just my personal preference. We will be stocking up on them for when my son comes home. Also, if you watch the sales you can get some good deals.

My favorites are Target store brand. I think it depends on the build of your child, because I've never had them leak and they saved me lots of money over my kids diaper wearing years.

We use Target brand as well and have never had an leakage problems or in fact any diaper rash. It is a bit of trial and error - go with your instinct as to what you want to use and if that does not work well, try another brand. Fortunatelly, I never experienced "error" as Target was the first brand we tried. I note that when we visited DS in GC , we just bought whatever brand the pharmacia had without thinking much about it, and all was well!

I try the "cheapo" brands, and if they don't work well, then I switch to the more expensive brands. I had a problem with some cheap diapers at first when Bryan came home--they leaked at night. However, I tried them again this week and they are working better than they were.

I just feel like, why spend more money than you have to on something that you are going to throw away? And that doesn't go into baby's mouth (i.e. not food) or warm him/her or shelter him/her...

But then again, I am generally very cheap!

I use Huggies for my son. At first I used Pampers but they gave him a rash and leaked. The child's build really does matter. Try one and if it doesn't work switch.

And for nighttime I use the Huggies Night diapers. They are the best! I think they have leaked maybe twice in the year I have been using them.

It also depends on the baby! Some brands work great for some kids, and the same brand can be horrible and leak a lot for another kid.

When my oldest was first born he couldn't wear anything other than Huggies Supreme. He would end up with horrible rash and/or would leak with anything else.

My youngest ds could wear any brand, but Luvs worked the best, so that's what I got with him.

Like with a lot of things, it's trial and error!

When the babies were younger several brands worked. this worked out good because for the baby shower they got many diapers. Then as they got older they started leaking out of certain diapers, Pampers, LUVS and regular Huggies. For us the only ones that do not leak are Huggies Supreme Natural Fit. Just look and you'll notice Huggies has different types, just to confuse you more. Something that also makes a big difference is if the child is a boy or girl. Girls go pee pee down and back and boys up and forward in their diapers. I found Pampers Cruisers are trim between the legs for walking giving little padding where my DDs go potty so they tend to float out but my friend with two boys loves the Pampers Cruisers. Try smaller packages at first or see if you can trade some off other mommies. Anna

As a first-time parent, I originally went with Pampers. I thought I'd get what I paid for and the soft, clothlike texture was appealing. Every time I went to get them in size 3, though, I noticed that the store would sometimes be out of stock. I also noticed that big "blowouts" would make their way out of the back of the diaper and up DS's back--gross!!

Someone gave me Huggies as a shower gift, and now I have a running joke with DH--there's a reason why they're called Huggies because they "hug" in the diaper contents. Far fewer blowouts with Huggies and no diaper rash problems. Cute Disney designs are nice, but probably mean that we pay a bit more for this reason.

Haven't tried any of the bargain brands because I'm not messing with a good thing.
