Question OT: Does your baby sleep with a blanket?

New parent here - My DD just turned 1 and she has never slept overnight with a blanket. (She sleeps in a blanket sleeper in the winter) Is it safe at this age to sleep with one yet?

My babies sleep with mini blankies that you can only order online. They are made of the silky stuff that goes around a blankie and both the girls just love them ... needless to say we have quite a few. They are so cozy and comforting and just the right size for the baby to hold.

As far as larger baby blankets ... all my kids had baby blankets in their cribs by 1 year old. Just one lighter weight blanket.

Hope this helps.

I am probably in the minority, and please don't bombard me with PM's about Safety. I am well aware...Sophia has blankets in her bed. She sleeps in a big girl bed and is 19 months old. She loves her blankies!

Our daughter is 1 and she sleeps with a blanket. It's light but she has had one for a few months now. It doesn't usually stay on her and if I wake in the night I put it back on her.

We have blankets too. We just tuck them in and she is fine. They are light and she is past where she can smother herself so we don't worry about it.

And if you meant a security blanket, we have one of those too. Well five extra duplicate ones just in case.

Yes, DS has had a blanket in his crib since he was about 10 months old - please don't bombard me with all the negatives. Anyway, DS is now 16 months old and as usual his blanket is just in his crib - usually at the foot all jumbled up ... He did have a bumper but had to take that out because he found if he stood on it it gave him better leverage. After a couple of times getting his feet stuck in the railings he's as happy as a clam. Also in his crib, he has a couple of his favorite books that he likes to read when he wakes up or just before going to sleep.

Carlton made the blanket decision for us. He just turned two and refuses to let a blanket in his crib. If I offer him one he immediately throws it out. Actually there is only one item that has reached the elite status of being allowed in his crib. It's a little plush musical toy. It's the only item that he lets stay in his crib with him. He's only tossed him out on one or two occassions. It takes a lot for him to get the boot.

At daycare he sleeps with a blanket. At bedtime he likes me to put a blanket over him to rock. If we are snuggling on the couch he likes the blanket...but at bed time, no thanks on the blankie.

Yes

Our daughter has slept with a blanket since we brought her home at 11 months. (also two stuffed animals)

She doesn't really seem to care much about the blanket... I cover her with it, but I think she kicks it off to sleep. I have always called it her "daddy blanket" because his grandmother made it for him as a baby. I think she likes it in the bed -- I noticed she called it "daddy" one day.

Our hot blooded little guy won't use a blanket. He wears a winter footed onsie in the winter and either a summer onsie or just a diaper in the summer. And thats with the AC on !!!
He is just always warm - like his dad. Meanwhile, mom wears her socks to keep her cold feet comfortable. Its funny cause when we were visiting Emily, her feet were cold too !!

I have 5 kids. They (except Luca who didn't come home until he was 2 1/2) all slept with blankets as babies. When they were very young, they were either swaddled or the blankets were light blankets tucked in snuggly around them. As they get bigger, they can manipulate the blankets themselves. By the time they are one, they can sit up, stand up , move the blankets, throw them out or push them off. I am very confident that they are safe with a blanket by one. I think you are fine! But you have to do what makes you feel the best!

Connor has always had blankets in his crib when we brought him home, altho he always kicked them off (and of course, I'd get up and tuck him back in. I was up A LOT in those days just checking on him thru the night anyway!). And now, at 3 yrs old, he sleeps in his big boy bed, and again-we cover him up--he kicks it off. Even in the winter, he kicks everything off. He'll wear pj pants or sometimes even footie-sleepers (I Love those); but he usually ends up waking thru the night hot and asks me to take it off. He's definitely hot blooded!

Blankie Family....

Six of my children have always had a Blanket with them at night, since birth. The seventh isn't home yet and is 12 so I'm pretty sure she uses one too...
One of my younger daughter has three security blankets at night, one has a blanket that she is NEVER with out and my youngest son has two...my oldest daughters and oldest son, all in their 20's still own their Blankies from child hood. I gave the baby blankets not huge quilts. They all kicked them off at night... go figure... Ann

Peter Jack started sleeping with a blanket at 11 months, he hates them though...IT also ends of at the foot of the crib all jumbled up He's always warm and the AC is on, but I always make sure that the AC is on comfortably for him, not too cold.

I used a blanket on my son since he came home at
6 1/2 months old. He is another blankie hater and kicks them off except in the really cold weather. I kept him is footed sleepers through the spring. It was a little cool the other night and I tried putting a blanket on him and he kicked it right off.
