..my daughter came home in Feb with an IR4. I am currently in the process of readopting her. If I readopt her will she still retain her citizenship in Guatemala? Thank you for your help. My agency was not sure.
p.s. she is doing great and absolutely beautiful!!! p.s.s and apparently I am very tired because I spelled "anybody" wrong--yikes!

I was told by our lawyer that they will always maintain dual citizenship.

I've been told "no". Hmmm... sounds like we need to hear from an expert out there.

Not a lawyer, but I am aware that countries allow dual citizenship. The US does, but I don't know if Guatemala does, too. In the event that Guat does allow, I believe that your daughter would have to file some sort of paperwork as a non-resident Guatemalan citizen.
Some dual citizenships require dual taxation....ouch... you may want to make sure that this is not the case with a US-Guat dual citz... Nancy Maya |
