Sippy cup transition

Just wondering if there's a sippy cup out there that's better than another one. Our son will drink his formula from one but after half an hour he's only drank an ounce! I tried taking the sippy part out then he takes one drink and has had enough! It almost seems like he puts too much of the top part in his mouth and then it doesn't come out right?

I had a very hard time getting Gabriella to drink milk from a sippy. I tried every brand, but she would not drink milk from any of them. She'd drink water or juice, but just not milk. Finally, she started liking the Nuby sippy since the spout is very similar to the bottle nipple she had been using. She did have some trouble sucking from it and that made her frustrated, so I made a small slit in the spout and she had no trouble after that. Good luck!!

When we were first trying to get Maria to drink from a sippy cup we used some found at Walmart. They had 3 little holes in the top, but would drip if held upside down, so not an actual sippy cup. I think she got the idea of the cup and after using that one for only a few days we were able to use a real sippy cup...one that wouldn't spill. When we moved to the real sippy cup she definately liked the Nuby?? ones best. They have a soft top.

I just bought Ana a Playtex First Sipster. It has 2 handles for easy grip, 2 holes on top, and a valve to keep it from spilling. She does really well with it and it appears she must suck on it much like a bottle to get any fluid.

Hi,

I posted a similar question to yours recently. I was having a tough time getting my DD to transition to a sippy cup and I think I tried just about every single kind out there!

Here is what worked for me.....my DD always wanted to drink from my cup or from a water bottle, but as soon as I gave her a sippy cup, it was thrown to the floor. One evening at dinner I had my cup of water and she kept wanting some of that. So, I made a big production of pouring some of my water from my "big girl cup" into her sippy cup and then talking a drink from the sippy cup myself! She thought it was hilarious and wanted to try it herself!! That is all it took!! All those days of trying different brands and sippy cups and all it took was me drinking out of the sippy cup! Ha ha! Now, having said that, my DD tends to prefer the sippy cups that have the softer, more flexible spouts.

Good luck!

Janel

We had the same problem with our daughter. I finally tried Avent sippy cups and she finally got it! My Walmart doesnt carry them but I find them at Kroger, CVS and Walgreens.

We had a similar problem with Sarah. We started her out on the Take & Toss cups and that reallly helped her learn to drink formula from them. I think that cup is easier to use because they don't have to suck as hard.

I also recommend the Nuby brand. We started by substituting one bottle a day with the cup and then a few days later 2 and so on until she was only taking a bottle in the evening.

We started a little before she turned one and I think the evening bottle was gone shortly after she turned one.

Regards,
Brandy

We, too, used the Nuby brand, but found they have a transitional cup that comes with 3 separate tops .... one is a nipple top, one a sports top, and the last a sippy top. (The only place I was able to find them was at Walmart.) We started giving DS his forumula before he was one in the transitional cup with the nipple top, and as he got used to the cup, I would substitute the sippy top (ne never liked the sports top). Around his first birthday, he was complely on the sippy top.

You might try the cups with a straw. My older son couldn't be bothered with sucking hard enough to get anything out of a traditional sippy cup, but did very well with the cups with a straw.

They are still relatively spill proof, though if the liquid in them starts to get warm, it will travel up the straw and leak out.

My 23 month old will only use the Nuby cups that I have only found at Walmart. She learned how to suck through a straw at 10 months and so I had a hard time finding a sippy cup that had a straw. The Nuby cup is small, has handles and is easy for my daughter to use. There are bigger cups out there but they tend to spill a lot. So, the Nuby cups are what worked for us. Now, if I could only get my now 1 yr. old to use a sippy cup.
