I am sitting at home this morning watching "Siberian Adoption Hotel" on discovery health channel. It must be new becuase I've never seen it before.
Well without going into too much detail I am outraged by this one family on there!!!
The mother says quote "We don't want to spend $35000 on a baby and then when they turn 15 say 'you're not my real parents'" Her and her husband were talking about wether they want to try and find the birthmom when she made the comment.
Hello!! Why are people like this allowed to adopt and why are they on T.V.!??

In my experience, the most offensive comments are often made by other members of the triad. I've heard it, not only on TV and in person, but on this (and other) forums here Adoption.com.

Oh, and I forgot to add. On the plane ride over they were talking to another family who commented on how beatiful all the babies in Russia are. The same women commented "Yes, they are beautiful, and they look AMERICAN. You can't get an American looking baby in America."
Uggghhh. What does American look like lady? Fill me in.

We have people like that going on national television and making those kinds of comments and then we don't understand why the media is so anti-adoption!!! It's like people from the south (which I am), I guess the problem is we can't get the bad apples in the bunch to keep quiet so we are not all stereotyped according to these people whom, I agree, shouldn't be allowed to adopt any child anywhere!!! How could you ever explain that to your future child when they want to know someday what possessed you to say such a thing?

Good heavens!! The things people won't do for money/fame in this world!!

I've seen that one and those people drove me cRaZy!!! The other woman featured on that show was amazing. I watched that show in SHOCK!

When were in Guatemala adopting our son, some adoptive mothers on the plane were asking each other loudly "How much was your's?". I was totally disgusted.
I have to say I do feel uncomfortable when people even in threads refer so openly to adoption costs or say that if they had $XXXX they would do it again etc. I know there is no bad intention here, just honesty but I think that fees etc are private and that I wouldn't want my child to read such posts as it sounds like 'buying' even though I am sure that is 100% not what the poster intends. I think that the public perception of IA can only be improved when the silent and committed majority have their voices heard rather than the few obnoxious types who make sure everyone hears them.

I've seen that one too. That family disgusted me.

She also said something to the fact of getting her baby home so she can "get a tan" and look more like them.

It was like she was more about the image of a family.

I saw that a couple months ago...I thought the same thing about that lady (they were both blond, right? i think from Florida and they had two boys & she desperately wanted a girl). She drove me nuts! And when they handed her the baby (who was adorable) the baby wouldn't stop crying and she was like "oh, this is really different than when you have your own"...duh, what did you think it would be like?!? And then they even reconsidered not taking the referral because the baby wasn't all smiley and happy at first.

I didn't see the show, but those comments make me sick to my stomach! I can't believe they were allowed to adopt.

On one of my trips to Guatemala I overheard an adoptive mom who was extraordinarily obnoxious tell another adoptive couple that when she got off that plane she "went up to the foster mom and told her to give me my baby". She explained how she grabbed the child from the foster mother. Also, she was dressed completely inappropriate IMO and was wearing SHORT shorts, flip flops and a tank and was SO loud in the hotel lobby. It took all my willpower not to go up and say something to her! The couple she was talking to seemed to be freaked out and were trying to escape her

If that's the same blonde family from Florida that were on Adoption Stories last year, they totally disgusted me. She continually made comments that were totally unbelievable and when the poor little baby was crying and not the happy, bubbly baby she wanted she considered backing out.

I saw that show too. I couldn't believe her either. Why they would chose THAT family on a pro-adoption show is beyond me.

Apparently, the media finds these "shining examples of parental love" while recruiting for the Jerry Springer show and looking for "model examples of grace and restraint".

Frankly, idiots on television sells. The only appropriate response is to hit the off button.
