New PGN "Fees"
Another couple that we know has been told that their file will not be released from PGN without a $600 - $750 "fee" being paid to PGN. The attorneys office is establishing a "Humanitarian Aid" fund and said that if the families will pay the fee to this fund, it would be "legal." Has anyone heard of this? We were concerned that it sounded like a bribe!!!

WHAT?!?!?!? That doesn't sound very "ETHICAL" to me. Anyone else heard anything about this "fund".

This does not sound right at all.
I would be contacting the agency for clarification and letting the attorney know that if they want to establish this fund they can do it out of the fees already paid to them. And then I would contact the US embassy about this new fee- first letting the lawyer know that I was contacting the US embassy.

Just got out of PGN and was not "required" to pay this extra.
The final amout due to the attorney did arrive very quickly at my doorstep---- it did include the extra charge for 3 months of Foster Care (6 was included) but this charge was in my contract.

No way, Jose! No such thing was told to us and we got out yesterday. Have your friend report it to the agency. That is sooo wrong that I could just scream.

This doesn't sound right to me....all of our fees are spelled out in our contract. We even asked what would happen if new fees occured during the process and were told that those fees would have to be covered by the agency.

No way in heck is this not greasing the palms of someone. If this were some new thing everyone was needing to do, it would have been known by now. I don't know what you should do. Is the attorney going to refuse to let you finalize everything and tell you you're out if you don't pay????????????

I remember something coming up about 4 years ago when I was in Guatemala with ny friend who was adoptiong. At that time, PGN put out an official notice of some sort that announced that there were NO fees charged by PGN and nobody should be asking for money to pay a "PGN fee". This sounds like it could be a similar scam to put more $$ into the lawyer's pocket---gee, I guess I'm not TOO cynical!
