OT: Whining

Spencer turned 3 a couple of months ago. My darling angel has turned into a whining machine. From morning until night, and I can't find anything to break him of it. Any request, demand, whatever... he uses a whining voice instead of his beautiful little boy voice. Please, please... any suggestions...

My DD is 2.5 and I have noticed the whining returning lately. My first response is "no, whining! Use your words." Which seems to be working ok.

The minute she starts to whine I say "no whining" and now she says " Here are my words." HAHA... ( this gets quite a few chuckles from family and friends) Sometimes it is hard to get past that statement. I try not to give into the whine and make her use normal voice to get what she wants. I tell her "she can have XX if she can ask nicely."

Good luck.

Yep, just don't give them what their whining for unless they say it without the whine. You may have to tell them what to say.

For example, my son will say, "I want juuuuiiicce." Then I say, you may have juice when you ask me the right way, "May I have some juice please." After he repeats it the right way, then he gets the juice.

Do not give him ANYTHING when there is a whine in his voice. He will get over it fairly quickly if you are consistent.

I agree with the posters above. I have just been through this with #4 and told him repeatedly, "I can't understand whining--you have to ask nicely." Eventually he seems to have emerged from that phase.

Good luck!
