Question Question re: final dr appt TODAY

Hi
We have been in antigua for just under 2 weeks with the baby & will be until our embassy appt (5/9.) Today is the final dr appt with the embassy dr and our lawyer is saying we can't go in with him and the foster mother will be going with him. I don't really mind her being with us but it seems weird that they say we can't go in.
What if the family is fostering?
Any input?
Is this worth fussing about?
Thanks in advance.

Phooey on that! The Embassy website encourages the parents to be there for the appointment! It really is just a basic once over and I wouldn't necessarily make my travel arrangements around it, but since you are there, I would insist on going.

It makes no sense to me that when you have had custody of the baby for the last two weeks, that the attorney would say you can't go!

We took Sophia to her doc appointment totally by ourselves. And we were not fostering.

Triple, wait no, quadruple (or whatever we are up to now) the Phooey.

We did not foster and we went with our attorney's assistant to the medical appointment. Her foster mother did not go with us. She came and spent some time with us and then left as we were heading off. The embassy doctor even spent some time going over her medical with us.

I agree with everyone, absolutely ridiculous that the attorney says you can't go. I would pitch a fit!

Does anyone know how to contact the embassy about the final appt? Would I just use the regular email?

I posted a few days ago about being informed that we will have to pay $85 for the embassy appt. and $125 for a vaccine that will given at that appt. I would like to contact the embassy about this and see if we can do the vaccine when we get home when insurance will cover it.

Anyone else pay for these things?

Hmmm at our appointment we paid $150 (back in January 2006) and he did not give her a shot. He just reviewed her medical and checked her over.

I arranged for one of the embassy doctors to see my son at 2,4, and 6 months of age to give vaccines...and paid extra to have him receive the pneumococcal vaccine, which is routine now here, but not part of the Guatemalan govt schedule. If that is the vaccine that you are paying extra for, I would consider doing it......you want your child to have antibodies to that common bacteria as soon as possible. It is designed to prevent one type of bacterial meningitis, but follow-up monitoring is showing a decrease in bacterial pneumonia and ear infections as well....

Yup, that's the vaccine I will be paying for. I'm just trying to figure out if I should get it there or immediately when we get home. Thanks for the info.

Good for you! Glad it worked out ok. And I agree about the ride from GC to Antigua and back. I do not have a weak stomach, and have used a great driver who's not too crazy, but all the exhaust fumes combined with the stop and go traffic has had me praying I wouldn't barf on more than one trip.
