Amatitlan Birth Certificate Question
Hi- I'm posting for a friend who is waiting to bring her daughter home. She was told to expect a 10-12 week wait for a birth certificate from Amatitlan. Also, she was told that there are new requirements to obtain the birth certificate. Does anyone have any information on the new requirements or the long wait time? Thanks a bunch!!!

You might try PMing the person that started this thread and see if she can give you any recent info. She hasn't posted since she started this thread on 4/3 but maybe if you PM her . . . .

Our adoption was finished in August of 05, but I was active on the forums for quite a while after that and I've never heard of such a thing. Amatitlan has always been one day. BUT, things could have changed. I'm not necessarily saying they are lying. I really hopeyou get some recent info on Amatitlan BCs. Good luck!

Things DID change with Amat BCs. They used to be VERY quick. There is a new person in charge now...so, there have been changes in requirements, etc. And, there have been delays... God bless.
Edited to say: I really HOPE that it does not take that long for your friend. : ( I hope to be needing an Amat BC in the near future.

Amatitlan BC
Hello, we got out of PGN March 22nd and we just got BC from Amatitlan yesterday, April 16th. There is a new civil registrar who is, according to our facillitator, "requesting a big list of documents along with the final adoption deed to expedite the new birth certificates."
So although it took longer than a day, it was not a 10-12 week wait (thank goodness!).

My granddaughter is from Amatitlan. My daughter had her BC within 2.5 weeks. She exited PGN on 3/23. However, people with her agency that exited PGN in early March waited about 4-5 weeks because of the new requirements.
