Lake Atitlan lodging & transportation
Hi-
We are planning to spend 2 nights here 4/8 & 4/9 (a good start to our pickup trip ) and wonder if you have any positive or negative comments of lodging options in this area. Also-what method did you use to travel from Guatemala City? How much was it? How long did it take? Thanks for the help ![]() |

We stayed at the Hotel Rancho Grande Inn, a few blocks from the water. Do a Google search for the Web Site.
We did a van and it was cheap, I'd say maybe $30 (2004). However, it did take a long time, I would guess 3-4 hours. There seemed to be some nice hotels near the water but I'm sure they cost more. I wish we would have taken a boat ride on the lake. Oh, well. One thing, if you do, do it early in the day when the lake is calm. Local weather tends to kick up the waves later in the day. |

We stayed at Rancho Grande too. Pancake breakfast included daily! Great, and they have a pool. There is a big Euro style hotel by the water but we only ate there and can't remember the name...We rented a car. Def. take a launcha over to Santiago Atitlan, plenty of shops and cool things to see.

We stayed at Posada de Santiago in Santiago Atitlan - thought it was wonderful. Little casitas with fireplaces. Good dining. Half mile from town. Lakefront hot tub. We scheduled transportation through Rainbow Travel (Nancy Hoffman) in Antigua.

Casa Palopo
Were going this weekend and staying here. It looks beautiful, also Hotel Atitlan is nice and Bambu as well. All are on the lake and nice.
Palopo has a web site so you can see it. |

We stayed at the Hotel Atitlan--it was like the garden of Eden--beautiful formal gardens, a rose trellis growing up the side of our porch; a pool-sized hot tub with the volcano as a backdrop...
I think the trip takes 3 hours from Guatemala City regardless of how you go...we had a van and a tour guide, and it's a long trip b/c of the roads. Enjoy your stay--it is beautiful! Carolyn

We stayed at the Hotel Rancho Grande this past November. It was great! We stayed in a bungalow. An older property, but we enjoyed our stay immensely. And yes, the pancakes they give you at breakfast are unlike any you've ever had before!
If you have any specific questions, please PM me. I'd be glad to answer them. Tina
