Social Security Card Question HELP

I have to apply for Mikayla's SS Card tomorrow. Do BOTH parents need to be there? The reason I ask is because in the directions it says that they need to see both parents SS cards. Confused. Also...what documents did you take?
Am I correct that I only need the application, her foreign BC since we have not re-adopted, her passprt (visa) and her COC?? IS that it? I don't want to get down there and not have what I need or have to have Kris present.
Hugs

I took his Guat Birth Certificate, his Guat passport and the protocolo. I went alone without him or my husband and I already received his SS card.

Good luck, it's really painless!

My dh went without me for our twin daughters (and we had not re-adopted yet either). He took my social security card. He just took everything and I had labeled all the paperwork. I'm not sure what exactly he needed. I would just take everything. Hope this helps.

This thread has an awesome post by SAK9645 about everything you ever wanted to know about getting a Social Security number for an adopted child. I really like it because she talks about some of the silly reasons SS offices give for not giving your child a SS# and the reasons they are incorrect. Good reading IMO before walking into the SS office. Good luck!

What do we need for social security card

Print the directions from the SS website as well...I say this because our person didn't know what to do, so I had to show her the instructions.

We brought all, but only needed Sam's passport. Although we didn't have the COC yet, so yes, you will need that (for Mikayla to be classified as a citizen instead of a permanent resident.) Tony and Sam waited in the car and did not need to be there.

Good luck! It is super easy and not at all the deal I thought it would be.

We just did this in Jan, my hubby went by himself he had to bring the birth certificate, the decree, I think there was one other form too, he ended up bringing the whole file we had of papers and they took what they needed and gave it back right then. So I agree take everything and let them take what they need. Tammy

The computers at the Social Security Office seemed to really like the "permanent resident card" number from the laminated card that you recieved in the mail.
