Intercountry Adoption Belize

you can read up here on what the US says about Belize. also, i found at least one agency when i googled "belize adoptions." from what i read, if you are not lucky enough to be belizean, or get an interim adoption decree, you could find yourself living in belize for a year to satisfy the government's requirements.

I am just starting to gather information. Here's a couple of things I have learned so far. There are no accredited agencies for Belize. The government does not require them. Be careful if you contact an agency and they say you have to have them, from what I understand you do not. You do have to have an attorney. You do not have to live there for a year. You travel for about a week and receive an interim adoption so you can bring the child to the US and then after 12 months of post placement reports your adoption is finalized. There isn't a lot of information out there, but you work directly with the Department of Human Services. From what I gather my next step is to contact them and then they send you the information to proceed. There is also information on the attorneys that are able to work with on the US Department of State website and other info as well.
