Question Dry skin care?

What tricks have you guys used for babies with very dry skin? My son has such dry skin on his face, yet he is kind of greasy near his hairline like seborrhea/cradle cap. Any particular lotions or other remedies?

May sound strange but I put a tiny bit of olive oil on Ana's skin..and in the winter had to stop bathing her every other day and go to twice a week..
her skin is fine in summer but in the winter gets more dry..I also make sure I give her her DHA/ARA powder by Baby's Only Organic..Omega 3 fatty acids..helps the skin as well..
For cradle cap olive oil works great also..it loosens it up then you can wash it and it should come off after 1 or 2 treatments..

My daughter gets rough, dry patches of skin on her body. The doctor gave me some cream and it didn't work. So, what works for us is - regular baby loation twice a day, and then every thrird day, before bed, I totally cover her in baby oil gel. She's slippery and slimy - but it works. Just make sure you have time to give a bath in the morning!

She still has a slight patch of discoloration on her face (at times). I guess it's just her pigmentation.

Aquafor or Euricin Rocks!! They are at the drug store in the baby aisle. Walmart makes a generic of Euricin too.
I had tried several other lotions and nothing helped his scaly skin..now it's baby smooth!

I've added baby oil to Cameron's bath water and it helps on his body. His little cheeks have been chapped too. I do regular baby lotion twice a day on his cheeks and it helps quite a bit, but I'm sure as soon as we all turn our dry heat off, they'll be back to normal.

We use Aquaphor, and it works well. It's a little slimy, but I think it works better than the regular Eucerin, and it's easier to spread. When M's eczema starts to get red, we use some hydrocortisone cream prescribed by the pediatrician. If her skin is under control, I just use Aveeno baby lotion. It works well for my dry skin, too! I bathe M only every 3rd day, and just spot clean the other days if needed.

The ped recommended T-Gel shampoo for the cradle cap, and it worked very quickly. I now use it only as needed.

Good luck!

If you can find:

Vitamin E Moisturizing Cream

It is great for Dry skin and scars.

It can be hard to find the one that is only vitamin E. My mother sends it to me from Ohio.

PM me if you want me to tell you where she gets it.

Good luck!

ps. We also use Aveeno on his skin everyday after a bath, etc.

I use Aveeno Baby lotion for my son. It is in a tube with a light blue cap, in the baby isle at Target. It works great on the chapped skin, especially on the face. As long as I have that on him, he never gets red and irritated. I use it for changing his diapers too, especially if he is starting to look a little irritated. It will stop a diaper rash in its tracks. I will swear by this stuff.

When we brought Malea home (to the lovely syracuse snow belt!) Her skin became very dry,red and flakey.. even her eyelids) The Dr. told us to use Cetaphil lotion several times a day, and after her bath. It all cleared up in two days. Also we use the Cetaphil soap for her bath.
Dr. also told us to cut her baths to once or twice a week.
The Cetaphil lotion can be expensive so we get the store brand that is the same (Dr. also told us to do this)
Side note.... my husband has cracked hands and this lotion has been great for him also.

I use aveeno bath products and lotions, but my DS cheeks were still red. I found Johnson's soothing naturals soothe and protect balm. it's in a stick form and it works great, especially on those balmy cold days.

Aquaphor ... or just plain vaseline

Hi there - aquaphor is what we used. I also had to cut down the daily baths to a few times a week. Aquaphor after a bath is great - and my son loves the massage part, especially on his toes.

Good luck - Barbara

We are having the same problem. I will try the aquaphor. LOL-- two days after getting to Guat for our visit trip, Amalia's skin is perfect again and no lotion since arrival!

Another vote for Aveeno - nothing else works on my African baby! His skin went from dry and patchy and flaky to beautifully soft!

Good luck...

I have 2 African American babies and their skin is dry all year we have tried all the products mentioned above and the thing that works the best for us is Eucerin Lotion, not the cream.

It goes on very easy and is thick. Doesn't feel greasy but doesn't soak in to fast either. Keri Brand Bath oil(it's blue) also helps in their baths. I have to use both of these all year and their skin stays very soft and clear.

Be careful with oils as they can clog pores and hair folicles very quickly and form very red, sore spots. This one I ecperienced personally!!!

Time to shop!

Thanks for the many options--I have an excuse to go shopping! I will try these and see what works. So far, I've just tried baby lotion and Eucerin cream and he cries when I put the Eucerin on and the effect doesn't last long at all.
