whose agency/attorney/facilitator has told them to NOT worry?

I have heard firsthand from Guatemala that in-process cases will be fine, but I have no clear definition of that.

I am NOT an expert in adoption Law, nor do I work for an agency or anything like that.

Anyone else?

My agency has told me that over and over for the past week! They keep telling me that my case will be fine and to feel lucky we are this far. I have really freaked out on them a couple times but they keep telling me I will be fine. I am still freaking it out!! But now I have decided it is out of my hands and in God's hands all I can do is pray. Well and call my reps. but really it is all up to God!!! My faith is to strong to believe that God would let this happen!! I pray our babies come home!

My agency also reassured me. Their director is just finishing a trip to Guatemala and they have pretty good connections and experience, and they don't have a history of painting a rosy picture, so I am inclined to believe them.

Their information is that anyone who has a referral will be grandfathered in under pre-Hague laws once the Hague takes effect. The other more near-term scares don't seem to phase them. They say the protocolo can't become law until the legislature votes on it three times. And they say the DOS statement doesn't threaten anything that hasn't already been happening, so there's no reason to fear significant delays.

That said, I am praying for everyone in process, especially the babies, and for the peace of the birth mothers whom all this is intended to protect. We never know what tomorrow will bring, really, but isn't that a good reason NOT to worry about it?

Good luck to all.

Our agency told us not to worry - -though it's very hard not to. They said that that abruptly stopping all adoptions is unconstitutional and will be challenged.

However, this "scare" won't go away. Guatemala MUST change their procedures to keep adoptions open. Things will change -- we just don't know when or how.

My agency said everything will be fine. Their Guatemala program has remained open and they keep saying that they are aware of everything and in communication with the government and that there is no reason to worry. I hope they are right.

I have been told not to worry too. I was told a legal plan is in place in case something drastic happens.

Our foster family has a connection with a lawyer who is part of the ADA. He is not worried about the Protocolo.

My agent also told me not to worry. So, quite frankly, I'm not. It's in the back of my mind, but I'm not letting it tear me down day-to-day!!!

Thanks for all your input. My agency has said similiar comments to us. Hearing that other agencies have said the same things is helping put me a little more at ease.

I am going to wait and see what transpires this week and next. Let's all pray that things will not stop and that those in process can continue. These children need homes.

As a lawyer, I know that anyone can do anything until he or she is challenged. So, if Berger puts into place a protocol stopping adoptions, adoptions will be stopped when and until someone goes to court to challenge his authority to do so.

So, even if there is a plan, the President's acitons could certainly hold up adoptions while an appeal is undertaken.

Praying for a positive outcome from all this...
Carolyn

I thought this thread was for people whose agencies have told them not to worry?? This thread has helped people set their minds at ease. We don't need posts on here that get people back in an uproar.
MANY agencies are telling their clients not to worry at this point. NO ONE, even the ADA, has any clue what this meeting tomorrow is going to do to current or future adoptions in Guatemala.
So, back to the thread... anyone else's agency saying not to worry??
