I'm in Northern Cal and have only gone to the San Francisco Guate consulate when I was paperchasing for my adoption (Fall 2005) They don't do documents while you wait (although they used to). I've heard from other folks that the LA consulate does take walk-ins. I would call first and confirm.

By the way, if you need anything taken to Secretary of State, just let me know. I live less than 10 minutes from there and have taken documents there for other adoptive parents.

Yes it does take walk-ins.

I was just there getting our new POA authenticated. It only took about 20 min. of waiting.

Now I do know that you have to show up early if you are having your entire dossier done and you want it back the same day. They will tell you to come back in a few hours. If you show up in the afternoon with an entire dossier, they will tell you to pick it up the next day.

I do know a very nice courier lady who will do it all for you. PM me if you want to know more.

LA Consulate

The office is down past the old "miricle mile" and doesn't look like your typical government office.

Be prepared to stand in line, no too long though, and they do it right away. They take the document and ask that you have a seat. In about 20 minutes, they call you up and give you the completed document.

Don't forget they will want cash for the fee.

They were all very nice in this office.
