Has anyone had a HS on hold because...

Has anyone had thier homestudy agency refuse to continue with the homestudy until they take a course in mathematics or obtain thier GED?

And yes this is our current problem, in a psych examination I had recently my mathematics skills were below average... not surprising as I did not graduate high school and have never been a huge fan of math. I also suffer from slight dyslexia with numerals only.

no....and i don't know if you want to switch homestudy agencies, but not all of them require psych evals for the hs. i don't know if i'd be adopting if i had to take a math test first the only math i had to do was to calculcate how much i owed them.

No

I think that thatis really weird. What does that have to do with you adopting? They cannot do that ... well apparently they can . But I'd call around to get another homestudy done.

Ok, that one takes the . That is about the strangest thing I have seen in this process Maybe your Home study person needs to take a psych exam, sounds like someone is on a power trip.... Seriously, if it were me, I would consider finding someone else to do the home study.

BTW - I hate math and I work for a bank!

WOW...I have never heard of that before! I would have to say I agree with a few of the other posters and say move to a different homestudy agency. The only math you need to adopt is to know how much it all costs...LOL. And maybe not knowing would be a better thing!

Phooey on them! Find a new social worker. I have a college degree and 3 kids and would be scared to death if someone told me I had to take a math test. I KNOW I wouldn't pass! I would be willing to bet you would be a great parent, math skills and GED or not. Don't give up!

Hmmmm....seems weird to me. I think we were asked about our younger lives and high school. I said I loved high school and my husband was truthful and said he basically scammed his way though it. I said I was the good girl and he basically said he was the jock with very little interest other than football...and probably girls, that was the extent of it. I do remember filling out paperwork that asked about the highest level we had completed, but no one ever asked anything more.

*sigh*

This is our second Homestudy Agency already...

I'm writting a letter to the co-ordinator of the homestudy agency hoping they will at least listen to my arguments... I handle our home finances and taxes, and I also have run a home daycare and handled all the finances and taxes for that as well.

Who knows maybe we can win an appeal if not... oy starting with another homestudy agency and all of that all over when they contact them and seem already prejudiced seems almost pointless

when they contact who, the last agency? do you have to tell them? (i'm not SUGGESTING you be dishonest, i'm really curious, do you HAVE to tell them that you started working with another agency?)

Guatemala does not require a psychological evaluation. We actually bypassed a homestudy agency because it was their requirement to have a psych evaluation. The owner was an psycologist and I figured it was one more thing that I did not want to pay for or bother spending time on. I would find another homestudy agency or do the minimun what they require as long as they will do the homestudy while you are working on the "math" degree. I don't know why agencies keep addding stuff. Anna

OK...I'm back...I guess I wasn't really done after all. What state are you in? Maybe someone can suggest a good HS agency through PM for you....
