Question Tiny Toddlers?

I'm just curious about different baby sizes. We brought our little guy home at 7 months and he was 13 lbs. 7 oz, 25 inches tall. At 17 months, he is a few ounces short of 20 lbs and just over 29 inches tall. We know that he is WAY under the 5th percentile on the US charts, but we've had him to international adoption pediatricians and developmentally he is right where he should be, if not a little bit ahead.
I keep reading about these very chubby babies coming from Guatemala and I am wondering . . . does anyone else have a little man like we do, or should we be concerned? (He is NOT a big eater . . . he would much rather run around chasing the cat or playing catch!)
Thanks for your feedback

Sounds like our little guys are similar. Mine was 14 pounds and 25 1/2 inches at 7 months. Now at 11 months he is about 18 1/2 pounds and 27 1/2 inches. Also under 5th percentile for height.

Like yours, ours is doing very well developmentally, and is on the move all day long.

In the referral paperwork, the birthmother did estimate the birthfather's height at about 5 ' 2 ". So I figure I will have a short, happy, active little boy!

Our older son is 4 1/2 years old and is only 35 pounds. He is in the 10th % for height and weight but is really smart (not to mention cute!! ha!) He too is not interested in eating at all! But, he has grown consistently and the dr isn't worried about him.

Our son is a little guy also. At his 15 month check up he was 18.5 pounds (lost weight from 12 month checkup due to sicknesses) and 28.5 inches tall. We keep wondering if he will ever hit the 20 pound mark!

Brayden is, however, a GOOD eater. He eats all the time and eats A LOT!!!

I go back and forth. Sometimes I am concerned...and other times I just love my little monkey! I know his birth mother was tiny...so, chances are, he will always be smaller than average. We can only wait and see.

Thanks for posting. I have often wondered if anyone else has a tiny little one, too.

Our son is 21 months--weighs 22 pounds and is 32-1/2" tall. He is definately underweight according to the American charts, but he, too, is above average on everything else.
The doctor was not concerned as long as he continues to gain some weight and thrives in other areas.

My daughter turned 3 in December and is 27.5 lbs and 34 inches tall. She is very smart (scares me sometimes!) and very coordinated and athletic. Small but mighty!

Ditto

I have beautiful little man who came home at 11 months and 15 pounds. He is now 17 months and about 18 pounds and a little over 29 inches tall. My doctor has never been concerned and my guess is, considering his heritage, he will always be on the small side.

He is very active, eats quite a bit (loves to graze), and is, I think, too smart sometimes for his little britches.

Good things come in small packages, as they say!

Matthew's a peanut, too! I don't know his size right now (his 18 month check-up is Monday). At 15 months he was in the 10th percentile on the US charts for height and weight. Developmentally, he's right on target.

Yet another little guy here. He just went in for his 15 mo. check-up and was 20 lbs. He was in the 5th percentile. I also have been a little concerned, but he is VERY active and often would prefer to check out the action than to eat. He does eat like a horse at other times. The doctor told he was fine, just a peanut!!!

Our son weighed 20 pounds when he came home at 2 1/2 years old. He was such a little peanut.... As soon as he got home, he started eating, and eating and gained weight and height very quickly. Now, he is about the same size as the kids in his preschool class. It's amazing what a little nourishment will do!

He was given lots of bottles, even at age 2.5, while in Guatemala. He wasn't eating a lot of solid foods, so he wasn't gaining much weight! He's great now though! And a whopping 34 pounds at age 4!!!

I think I'm the winner of the peanut contest. My little man was 12 lbs at 7 months. I personally thought they made a mistake when the agency provided me the refferal information. Well, he came home one day shy of 17 months weighing in at 17 lbs and measuring 29 inches! He's been home since Dec. 20th and is now almost 20 lbs and 31 inches tall and he's 18 months old. Still he's my little peanut!

Our son is small too but once again incredibly smart. He came home at 2 and is now 3.5. He is finally growing a little and is up to some 24 month pants. He is as smoeone else mentioned a lot of might in a little package. He is an incredible soccer player and has won the nickname "World cup". He is very popular in his preschool where some of the boys tower over him in height. My doctor mentioned that she was a little concerned that he was not even on the charts and I told her that he is likely to be 5'4" or less based on his biological heritage. When she mapped it out that was exactly where he fell in the projections. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

My little guy is 22months, weighs 24 lbs. and is 30 1/2". He wears 12-18 month clothes but we roll the pants. He doesn't look thin at all but he does appear to have a short stature. He too loves soccer! He is very smart, funny, active!!! and in some areas I would say he is ahead of his peers. No worries.

Flora came home at a year - 28" & 14.5lbs. She LOVES food - all types !!! She's about 15 months and weighs 19.5lbs & is 28.5".

She's running around, going through the closets and is constant motion, until bedtime! Our son is bio and was/is very coordinated...she's not far behind him - and she has more words than he did at this age...and we changed her language!

My dd came home at age 17 months. She was 20 pounds and 32 inches. She will be 4 years old on March 26 and just hit 30 pounds. She is 38.5 inches tall. She eats good, is very smart and has grown steadily. It did seem like she stayed at 28 pounds forever, though. We were very excited when she recently weighed in at 30. lol My bio dd weighed that at age 2.5 and was also much taller.
