DOS Link to info on the Protocol

There is a link now on the DOS site about the protocol but I can't open it. (An error shows up). If anyone can open it and tell us all what it says, that would be helpful.

Thank you.

We were just told by my agency (and were told it's ok to share) that they have postponed the date of this announcement. I haven't read this whole forum yet so someone has probably already posted this. Has anyone else heard or know when it's to be postponed to?

Here is what the DOS site will say (once they fix it). A DOS person emailed me the following:

Guatemala Plans to Announce Protocol of Good Practices on February 16, 2007

The government of Guatemala has invited the U.S. Embassy to attend a ceremony publicly announcing a “Protocol of Good Practices” on adoption on Friday, February 16. As details of the implementation of the Protocol become available we will provide updated information.

Rumors that the U.S. Embassy is no longer accepting adoption cases are not correct. The U.S. Embassy continues to process adoption cases as stipulated under U.S. law and procedures.

The U.S. government supports efforts by the Guatemalan government to increase protection of children and parents and a smooth transition to implementation of the Hague Convention on Intercountry Adoption for Guatemala.

JenRo,
This is an announcement that they invited the U.S. Embassy to the meeting on Friday, not that it is being postponed as Kevin said. Nothing on the site mentions that it is being cancelled.

I don't get this either. Why are we getting 2 differnet stories. Our agency said the same thing as Kevin and got their info from the DOS. Now the DOS posts something completely different?

It may be that there is just a lag between when DOS knows information and the update to their website. The current website posting may already be "stale".

This web posting came this afternoon - but apparently DOS told Focus on Adoption people this morning (at what point I do not know) that this was "postponed". Something stinks in suburbia.

With President Bush's upcoming Visit to Guatemala Maybe now would be a good time to start a Letter (Email) Writing Campaign to the White House and Mrs Bush !

White House Press Statement on the Visit
"The President will also visit Guatemala to experience the rich cultural diversity of this Central American nation, meet with President Oscar Berger, and emphasize the close relationship between our two countries. "

i hope a letter campaign would work but it seems that the US government are positive about the changes to adoptions as that seems to be the tone of the DOS site.
