Has anyone visited any other areas than GC, Tikal, or Anitugau which you would recommend?

Yes. I would highly recommend going to Chichicastenango on market day (Thursday or Sunday I believe). It is a fun place to shop but is also a wonderful place to see the local culture. People from many different villages are there to buy and sell and there is a very interesting church in the center of the market. I would also highly recommend a trip to Lake Atitlan and to see some of the villages that surround the lake. Have a wonderful time travelling.

I LOVED Lake Atitlan - had a great time - tons to see and it was WAY different city than Antigua. The drive was amazing - and there are some great Maya ruins on the way that are off the beaten path and SO worth checking out. My dad and our driver went fishing on the lake (very funny story with my dad trying to find a lure) and we had a blast!

we traveled on our first trip to antigua and lake atitlan. our second trip we went to tikal, and although we loved seeing antigua and atitlan if i had to choose, i would probably go to tikal. for us, as our son is indiginous, we really felt that learning about his history was invaluable. while traveling from hotel to tikal we drove through lots of villages, and also spent an afternoon in flores. we have some photos from our tikal trip if you want to see them. feel free to email me directly for any specific travel questions or for photos.
