Anyone's 13 month old NOT walking yet??

Celeste will be 14 months on the 18th and has shown NO interest in walking yet! She will stand for just a few seconds at a time and cruises EVERYWHERE, but is just not walking yet.

I know that this is normal, but her big bro walked at 9.5 months (no bio relation) so this is weird for us! I'm not concerned for her developmentally since she can cruise and her legs are definitely strong enough to support her. She is just taking her sweet time! I know, I should enjoy this time before she is RUNNING all over the place!!

Just curious to see how many other "late-walkers" we have around here.

If she is cruising now, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I don't think pediatrician's start worry about this until 18 months. My DD first took steps at 12 months, but just started really walking in the past couple of weeks. She was 13 months old on 1/26.

Oh, I should also mention. DD has a cranial helmet, so when she falls it doesn't hurt her, so she has no fear of walking.

Sounds like our daughter. She really didn't start walking until 16 months. I wouldn't worry yet.

Normal

Antonio didn't walk until 14 1/2 months! He cruised plenty but showed no motivation to walk - then one day, just 2 weeks ago, he was cruising the couch and just turned around and walked across the room - as though he'd been walking for months. Now he walks everywhere, totally stable. I guess he was just waiting until he could do it without falling.
I'll happen, I've met plenty of kids who waited until 15 months. Enjoy the peace while you can!

Isabella cruised forever! She didn't start walking until she was good and ready at 14 1/2 months. I wouldn't worry about it - especially if she is cruising.

My son is 18 months old and still cruising without letting go. He is attending physical therapy. Therapist says it's just lack of experience due to the fact that he was stuck in a pack and play all day. Don't worry, it'll happen!

My DD is 14 mos and 1 week and doing exactly what you described Celeste doing, standing, cruising, but not walking without holding someone's hand. She didn't start crawling until 10 1/2 mos, not sure if that means anything. DD is also a cautious girl, so I figure she won't walk until she is sure she can do it. I am trying not to worry too much about it mayself...she is my first child so no reference or experience to go on.

Walking

My son (who was born 12/12 so is about a week older than your daughter) is doing exactly the same thing.
He is a mad crawler, really fast, and crusier and just doesn't seem interested in walking. He will stand momentarily on his own, and then when he realizes it, he will sit down,
I know it's normal. But it does nag at me a little especially when I see his peers and younger walking around.
I just keep telling myself that when he does walk, I'll be wishing back to when he just crawled!

My son was also born on 12/12 and isn't walking. He's cruising around the house, though. Just last week he started taking a few (3-5) steps on his own when he wants to get from one place to another, like from the end table to the couch, if that makes sense. He's been doing that for a week, but nothing else so far. He will also stand for a few seconds, but then sit. I think he is being cautious. It does make me feel a little bad when other kids his age that we know are already walking and my baby book says they should be walking "well" at 13 1/2 months! I'm trying not to worry. He was cautious about learning to crawl, too. I'm sure he'll do it when he's good ready - at least before kindergarten, right?

My little guy was also born on 12/12 (same day as my husband) and when we picked him up a week before his first birthday he could crawl pretty good but only stand for a little bit. At this point he will walk a couple of steps on his tippy toes if you take his hand (but this has to be HIS idea not yours mind you) and his crawling and cruising around he can make it faster than his sister can run. He will stand and move around on the sofa and hold onto just about anything and walk that way but on his own like I said it has to be his idea and not yours. Ironically though and I know this has nothing to do with what we are talking about here he is much more of a talker than my daughter was at this age and we were able to bring her home much younger (9 and a half months) so I just figure the walking alone will come when he is ready.

My son didn't independently walk until 17.5 mos and and my daughter was walking at 11 mos! All kids have their own timeline.

Our first bio daughter didn't walk until 15mo, though she would stand up from a sitting position. Just didn't want to trust herself, I guess. She is 24yrs old now and walks just fine! Being our first, and having friends with early walkers, I worried. Wasn't until afterwards that I learned the national average for walking at that time was 14mo. Could have saved myself some worry if I'd known that. She was just a cautious kid, taking longer to learn to ride a bike, jump rope. And remember my friends with the early walkers? Their kids were riding bikes at four years old. Our daughter was an athlete later in jr high and high school. As you say, it will be soon enough she is leaving you in the dust and getting into more things than she can already. And THEN before you know it, she will be 24yrs old!
