Hello all,
We have been home 5 weeks today. Yesterday, we received Jorge's certificate of citizenship. We also received a letter of welcome from the President. However, my pediatrician told us we would receive a list of tests for him to receive, and other paperwork that he would have to fill out. I didn't get any of that. Also, how do I get the packet of info that we turned into immigration when we came home?? Does anyone know how long it takes to get a social security #?? Lisa

Hello and Congratulations!
We never received any paperwork with all of our son's test, but then again, our process ended in 05. We did just receive our pack of papers about 2 weeks ago. You have to fill out that G684 (I think that is the name) and send it to Dept of Homeland Security and in a few weeks they'll send the pack back to you. I don't know how long you need to wait before you do that but if you already got your COC then you are probably safe to apply (no cost). Best wishes! Jenn

I have never heard of getting receiving a list of tests or other forms. I wonder if maybe that is for Russia. I know you have to send reports back to Russia periodically after your child is home. Maybe there is a medical aspect as well. I have a list of tests that was recommended by our agency. PM me if you would like that.
You can apply for a social security number at any time. It will not come automatically. It should take a week or two to get once you apply. Jenn answered your question about the Immigration packet. USCIS form G884. My daughter's came in about 6 weeks. My son's took about 4 months.

hi friend...."WE" will not get a list of tests the kids should have. your doctor should be able to reccomend them. eli just needed a lead test, and he had to re-do his last series of shots b/c the guat dr had mis-dated his shot record. He did end up getting several tests for parasites and rotovirus b/c he came home sick....otherwise they wouldn't have tested for that. BUT, make sure that if jorge has mongolian spots, that the dr documents that in his file. we applied for eli's immigration packet when we got his coc, but i just got a letter back that all the documentation i had sent to prove who eli and i were had to be notarized, and so i had to do it again. oh well. then we went to the ss office and applied for his card and we got it in 1 week. WOW!

Hi Lisa -
Another member asked me for info on filing the G884 awhile back so I have a nice mail laid out that explains it if you want to PM me. It's long. Also I can explain the other stuff if its still at all confusing. Shelly |

questions
To LCarroll:
1. No, you do not receive a list of medical tests from the government. You can contact an international adoption medicine specialist, and he/she will be happy to consult with your pediatrician regarding appropriate testing. Some agencies may also provide lists of tests. 2. Other paperwork for the doctor. You will not receive any other paperwork from the government for your doctor to complete. HOWEVER, if your agency requires post-placement reports, it may have a form that your doctor must complete, showing immunizations and such. Also, if you readopt in your state, and your state is one of the more "difficult" ones, you may have to have a homestudy update showing that you are providing appropriate medical care for your child; if so, you may have to have a form signed by your doctor. 3. Go to the USCIS website and download form G-884, the form for return of documents. HOWEVER, for people who have not yet gotten their child's certificate of citizenship (I know YOU have already), I would recommend waiting until you get it, as the USCIS may need those documents to prove that he/she is eligible for a certificate. 4. You can apply for a SSN for your child the day you return home from overseas, if you aren't totally exhausted. You can USUALLY find out the number that day, and you can usually get the SS card within a couple of weeks. If you need more information, I'll send along a copy of what I posted a while ago. Just remember that you can get a SS card for your child, whether or not you have readopted, whether or not your child is a citizen yet, and without doing any new translations of documents. Sharon
