Names for "Gotcha Day?"

My son's first Gotcha Day will be here soon, and we are trying to find a name for the special occasion. We aren't sure if we want to use Gotcha Day yet. Any other ideas? THANKS

I really like the idea that others have suggested for using "Family Day" celebrating the day that your child became part of your family. That is what I am going to use.

Congratulations on your upcoming celebration!

We celebrate Family Day - which is the day Isabella was placed in our arms forever. We will do the same for Magdalena. All of our family and friends know the term and are always excited to celebrate our family day with us. It is a pretty big deal - also happens to be 4th of July. We attend the local parade together as a family and then have a barbeque and watch fireworks with friends and extended family. With Maggie, it will be December 19th so it should also be special because we will celebrate with family and friends that we cannot be with on actual Christmas day so it will be a sort of family day christmas theme gathering with those loved ones. Of course, family that will celebrate actual Christmas with us will come too! I love family day.

I have always liked family day. Especially if you have other kids. Being a single parent, I am not sure what I am going to use, but if I had other kids, I would definately go with Family Day.

Why can't you celebrate Family day just because you are single and only have one child? It is the day that you and your daughter became a family. I know I am looking forward to the day that my DD and I become a family forever.

Together Forever Day

We celebrate the day that we arrived home and our whole family was together forever (we didn't take our other 3 kids on pickup). We will celebrate our second Together Forever day in 2 weeks!

Just by chance... it's been one year today that our oldest daughter arrived home. What an amazing year. We havne't coined a term yet for the day, but I like Homecoming Day.

About 1 year ago, Adoptive Families Mag. had an article about the term "Gatcha Day". For adoptees it seemed not to be a favorable term. Like many others who posted before me, we call it family day. For some the term is not PC. You can use Celebration day or Adoption Day, I personally don't care for the term Gotcha, as if one could own a person.

My first son came home on Christmas Eve and its also my sisters birthday, so it is a day to celebrate, My second son came home close to Thanksgiving so we are all celebrating.

You might want to read that article and check the past posts here since we had a very long discussion on this matter.

We don't actually celebrate the day ... hmmm...
But I definitely don't like the term 'Gotcha Day', and any of the other 3 that you all use are infinitely better...
Family Day.
Homecoming Day.
Together Forever Day.

Much, much better.

We don't celebrate, and maybe we should, but I always remember it ... it was so close to Mother's Day, it was the last Mother's Day that I wasn't a mother, only I didn't know it!!!

Mother's Day is what I celebrate!!!

Babs
