Does anyone know if you adopt a child without an agency, or if you use an unlicensed agency whether you still qualify for the tax credit.

I'm not a 100% about this, but I thought adoption is adoption. Many people go through private attorney's. When we went to have our taxes done last year they don't ask who did the adoption they ask for receipts. I think as long as if you can back up the adoption through paperwork than you should qualify. This is just my thought maybe someone will have a more definite answer for you.

Greetings - it doesn't matter for Federal tax purposes whether you complete an adoption through an attorney, agency, etc. As long as you complete an adoption - you're still eligible for the credit!
