American Embassy attack in Athens

Hi everone,
Did you all hear about the American embassy being bombed in Athens? Now I bet they will make it even harder to go into the embassy in GC!

I just thank God that no one was hurt in the attack in Athens. Embassies around the world are targets for terrorism and civil unrest--the security measures they have in place are there for good reason.

Amen to that. That should be even more apparent after this attack.

From CNN

"It appears a missile was fired from across a broad avenue," the U.S. ambassador to Greece, Charles Ries, told CNN. (Watch as Charles Ries discusses the embassy blast )

He said that although the setback for the embassy is more than 20 meters (about 70 feet) from the road "there probably is not a spot that would be so far away that a missile couldn't be fired."

Not much anyone can do if a missle is fired from across the street. As CNN says, it was launched by "locally grown leftists."

Thanks Debbie! I still lurk here occasionally--I like to keep an eye on the old timers. I'm doing great. My baby daughter was born at the end of October and I am just loving being a Mommy. Unfortunately I have to go back to work next week--who knew I would want to be a stay at home mom??!! However, I'm committed to my job for the next three years at least. I'll head back to the US this summer for more language training and then on to another country in Eastern Europe. Hope you all are doing well and are enjoying your little angels or on a speedy path to bring them home.
