Suite at Casa Serena v a room at the Crowne Plaza

On my previous visits I've stayed at the Crowne Plaza in a suite..lots of room to spread out..this time suites are all booked...I took a reservation for a regular room, but I'm concerned since Isabella is now a toddler, and the room might be a bit confining. My agency is very limiting re: the hotels I can use...the other place they offered is the Casa Serena...according to the website it has apartment like suites..but no in-house restaurant....room service is from area restaurants...it has a pool, but Isabella hated the water the past few visits...going down to the restaurant 3 times a day was the only time I got outside the room ....so....what do you think?

Go for the apartment where we can spread out, but not really get out of the rooms for four days, or stay with the Crowne Plaza (where they know us by now!) and at least be able to leave the room a bit....?

I'd like to hear from anyone who has stayed in a regular room at CP or stayed at the Casa Serena....what were they like?

Thanks

Hi Donna,
We stayed in a regular room at the Crowne back when we visited in August. We had Rod and myself as well as Emilee, Ronaldo and Julia. It was fine. Not near as nice as the suites, but we did just fine. Hung out by the pool a lot and down by the restaurant. The kids didn't even notice and we truly were fine with all of us there.

We stayed at Casa Serena in November. Great hotel, and the rooms were very nice, but not much common area to speak of. If you need room for your child to run around in, and you're stuck in the hotel, I'd recommend somewhere else. But, if you don't need that room, I would recommend. We really enjoyed our stay there. PM me if you have additional questions!

Tina

LOVED Casa Serena

We stayed at Casa Serena for pick-up. Cozy and lovely. As above, not much common area, and I think the pool they refer to is a tiny area that struck me as ornamental rather than functional...but it's a little cold for pool right now there, in my book. The staff were VERY sweet to us and our son. Casa Serena is a couple blocks from the Westin, where we had stayed previously, so we went there for a meal for "old time's sake". There are many other nice restaurants nearby, and a great vegetable market around the corner. The kitchens are small but have oven and stove in addition to fridge and microwave....we REALLY appreciated not having to eat out for all our meals. They have a very nice breakfast buffet included in the price, and wireless Internet (for a fee, less than the Westiin) in the rooms. I never see much posted about Casa Serena, but I hope to never stay anywhere else when we return for heritage trips with our son. PM if more specific questions....

We just stayed at the crown plaza 12/18-12/21, it was a bit small but had no problems, we also did some walking around, and did room service. I would say go for the Crown Plaza, specialy seeing how they already you know you. Tammy

Casa Serena

We spent several weeks at Casa Serena in a 2 bedroom apartment and absolutely loved it. We also tried 3 other well known places, but were most comfortable there. The apartments were lovely and very clean and the water was filtered. Breakfast was tasty and we liked being able to cook other meals/snacks in our room. They have on-sight coin laundry facilities and there is a Mall and several resterants near by and a grocery store right around the block. Our older kids tried the pool, but it was cold and more for decoration than user friendly, but the space in our room and the rentable video game player made up for the lack of swimming. There was no air conditioning in our place and on the weekends you get to hear the local music from the clubs nearby, but we were never uncomfortable temperature wise and actually enjoyed hearing the music. Their shuttle is available as a taxi to take you anywhere you want , so you can go to the zoo, Embassy , airport , shopping or wherever else you may want/need to go. The staff was WONDERFUL and we will definately stay there the next time we are in GC.
Please PM if you have any other questions.

Mamalama
