We call our "gotcha days" "family day". We celebrate both Londy and Jeremy's family day. We do some kind of special family activity that involves all the kids. We have a family picture taken on Jeremy's family day in August and a sibling photo taken on Londy's family day in May. We also tell their adoption story on that day and the older kids add in the parts they remember.

Have fun creating your tradition!

Contacted our Congressman's office and had a flag flown over the US Capital in DC in honor of Luke being home on US soil for a year - Nov 18, 2006. They sent us the flag with a certificate and a keepsake box. My Dad is building us a display box.

We will do the same thing for Sydney!

I'm interested in the response here as our Gotcha day is only 2 months away.

What we have been thinking...is calling it "family day" as this is the day our family was completed. I'm planning a special cake, dinner out at the kids' favorite restaurant, and a playing of the video we made about how we became a family. Whatever we do...it will be FUN!!!!

Can't wait to see other suggestions!

Everyone was sick at our house, so we had a quiet celebration. We ate cake and watched the videos from our visit and pick up trips.

For my older daughter, we celebrate her "American Birthday" as the day she officially arrived in the US - which just happens to be the 4th of July! We do cake and a present...nothing big, but nice to celebrate!

We have celebrated 2 Gotcha Days for Parker and we do it up as big as his Birthday party. We have a large party for friends and family and have dinner and cake. We send out invitations, get Gotcha Day balloons and have a great time remembering the first time he was placed in our arms. We also put out all of his lifebooks and scrapbooks and watch his video also. We do request no presents as he gets enough with Christmas and his Birthday.

For me his Birthday is, of course, special, but more special for us is the day he was placed in our arms forever so we have a great celebration.

I have heard of people lighting 3 candles...one for the birthmother, one for fostermom, and one for the forever family. I like that idea!!!
