Hello, have not been on the boards in awhile but needed to send this. is anyone here from NC, Charlotte area, and knows of the deadly fire on 12/29 that resulted in 2 young girls dying? One was adopted from GUA which of course touched me since I have just had my daughter home for a few months. But, then I found out that I know the father of this family. I went to college with him and want to try to help by sending a contribution or something. if you have info can you PM me? I would appreciate it.

I know that they live in Indian Trail , in NC. I live about 30 minutes from them. There last name is Perry. It is soooo sad! I cuts through the heart being
so close to home and adopting from Guate.

Maura, I live in Charlotte....about 20 minutes from Stallings where this family lived. I will look online tonight and tomorrow and see if I can find some information for you. It's such a tragedy. I feel sick everytime I turn on the news and hear about it. The story about their adoption was very touching. They were adopting Olivia (I believe) when they got pregnant with the other baby....so she was a miracle baby. Today in the news they said that the fire was started by their Honda Pilot which was in the garage...but not turned on and the keys were not even in the ignition. That is SO frightening!!!! My heart really goes out to them too!!! I'll get back to you..... hugs...

I heard about this from others at my college and just can not believe it. How could a mom have to watch her home burn with her 2 children in it? And now that I know what it takes to adopt a child from GUA the thought of losing them to something like this is beyond comprehension.

Maurahunter: my MIL and SIL are NC. my SIL is a teacher and knew the child. SIL taught this child and was supposed to go see family a few days later. also SIL's one son knew the child also. MY SIL and nephew were both quite upset. According to my MIL they are doing better. it was a hard time for them both.

How heartbreaking!!!
Just re-inforces my new years resolution to add a fire ladder for escape and come up with a fire escape plan. My DD is only 2 but her room is upstairs. Think I will get those today and make a game out of us escaping from the house! But then explain when to use it!

We have been doing fire drill with our kids. We even did it in the dark to make sure they can get out. We live
in a one story and I plan to never go to a two story or if we do no bedrooms or play room will be up stairs!
