I really don't remember WHAT Alec played with when he was one. I forget. I know he had a few Playskool toys that he ADORED but they would be too big to take. He loved anything with sounds and that was musical. He did have a book that was a flip book that played a song on each page. It was by Barney. It was a HUGE hit and compact. Easy to take...wouldn't take much room. I will look at all my stuff I have packed away.
Hugs

What about some manhatten toy aka whoozit toys? I just bought two that are small and light but make noises, show moving pieces etc? I plan on taking these with me. Also I would take a couple of bath toys like rubber duck etc and light books. Also what about a small soft stuffed animal, i remember someone telling me they took one down and their one year old never let it leave her side!

Lisa, blocks are small but so much fun! Good for hand eye coordination! Also something else that my kids liked at 1 was The See and Say, kinda hard for them to pull the lever by themselves, but oh so fun!!

Good luck!

Mine turned 1 last Saturday. I'm taking soft, talking toys. The counting worm is AWESOME. I even like playing with it! I'm taking "Leap," a frog that sings the ABC's and miscellanious other small toys. Anything soft, easy to pack, and sings or talks is good.

eli is one....and he'll play with ANYTHING... literally....you got an old shoe? He'd be entertained for an hour....but since that is probably not something you'd actually WANT your child to play with, try anything with lights and sounds. eli loves this camera from the target baby section, it has a mirror on the back so he can see himself, and when he pushes the button it makes a sound and lights up....he LOVES it! He also loves, loves, loves, the fisher price city toys....like the little people in a firetruck with a station. I wouldn't pack the station, but the guy and the car are semi small.

Trey's favorite toys (for the past 6 months) are picture books with photos of real objects and people. He will look at these for hours! Saying "what's that?" over and over again for each picture!

He watches DVD's on a small portable player if we are traveling. Bubbles are fun. Anything with lights and noise will be a hit.

Have fun!

Kasandra loved the LEAP Catepillar that sings, counts and plays music. She loved at our visit trip, pick-up and on the plane ride home.
Also, you could try the little people figures they are small and will fit in her hands.

How about a small clip on SEEand SAY.

Have fun!
Kim

When I travelled, almost 3 years ago to pick up my 1 year old (Hague baby) I bought an Elmo that spoke and sang in English and Spanish, it was a big hit.

Good luck

I would take a musical book by V-Tech (I think it's about $10 at Target). It's made out of hard plastic so the pages are easy to turn and each page has little knobs and things to turn to make the song start, so that's fun too. Our son absolutely loved this at 12 months! I'd also take some bubbles.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!!! Oh, sorry, I wasn't supposed to do that? Silly girl.

Addy loves anything that makes music or talks. She got Lily, like csw said, for Xmas and LOVES it. She also got this barn thing with those see through blocks with stuff in and you put the blocks in the barn and it makes noises. She loves that. Have fun! OMGosh, just going out and buying toys? That sounds like a blast.
