OT: I want to see your kitchens!!

Yup, you read it right, your kitchen. I am going to paint my kitchen in the next few weeks and I need some color ideas. My kitchen leads off my living room with two arches so it needs to match a little bit, but my living room is a light tan and a dark brownish gray so it shouldn't be hard. My curtains in my living room (which are close to the kitchen) are light tan with pink, red, and dark red flowers. I don't want to go with green because I have a green frog bathroom and our room is green already so I want to stay away from that. Anyone willing to share?

I'm leaning toward a dark maroon, but any ideas would be appreciated!! I have a chair rail, so I was thinking about painting a dark maroon on the bottom and sponging stripes in light tan, and then painting the dark maroon on the top, think that would be too much?

Our kitchen is Chrysanthanum from Sherwin Williams. Its an orangy color. (many people have orange kitchens here). We get lots of compliments on how warm it looks.

It opens to a yellow with red accent family room and our dining room is a sage/olive green.

I suck at uploading pics here but could email. Email me at ERMamaA@aol.com

Mandy,

Ours is red. I love it. Its not a "in your face" red. I've got some pics somewhere. I'll post this evening for you. We are going to the in-laws now......

Hugs,
Lisa

I had posted before about my "celebrate Guatemala" kitchen

But I would be happy to share again! My dh and I painted, then stenciled a border to match the huipiles I had made into cornice boards. Here are the pics!

Well, my kitchen is sage green, but since that is already ruled out, I won't show that to you.

My living room is a deep red though, so here that is a bit of it (along with my older son being goofy and my Dad admiring his new vest.) It is a Sears color. Can't remember the name, but if you want to know, I can hunt it up. The right side of the picture of my son or behind my Dad is probably most representative of that the color really is. They aren't coming out very clear having been reduced so much.

wvamom - I just LOVE your kitchen! When the money fairy comes through and we can afford to redo ours, I am going to copy your idea!!

Here is my kitchen. I did a two tone faux finish on the walls and then painted a window scene where I wish I had a window. Then I repeated the painted arch window on my real window to tie them both together.

Debbie--thanks for the compliment! It wasn't extremely expensive--just some work involved (note to self--never try to paint over existing border again! Removing border and starting over is much easier!)

Wow, Leah, your kitchen rocks! Can you come and do my boys' room?

Carolyn

No doubt! You aren't anywhere close to Michigan are you? You can pick any room in my house and go to it!!

Carolyn - Yes, always remove the border first. And then wash the wall well to get rid of the paste residue. Unluckly I speak from experience! Oops!

The problem with my kitchen is it is circa 1978 (bad era for decor!) and needs to be pretty much taken down to the studs and start over. And so far the money fairy hasn't dropped by to finance the operation! I am thinking those gorgeous valances you made might distract people from my ugly yellow linoleum though! Hmmmm . . . maybe next week would be a good time to do some sewing . . . .

Ok, I will show the kitchen in my house in Illinois, which we just sold.

First, to understand our motivation, you have to know that:

1. I'm a cheapskate
2. I buy ALL of my paint from the Mistint Shelf at Lowes.
3. I realize that it's just paint and even if it turns out ugly, all it takes is more paint to fix it.

A lot of work, yes...a LOT of work...

(No comments about the dirty dishes in the sink please, we'd been 'without kitchen' for three days, and I couldn't wash while the paint was wet)...

So, without further ado - The Hagelstein Kitchen

Every wall in the kitchen is a different color - I've painted the trim "Slate" and the ceiling, of which there isn't a good picture, is a pale grayish silver.

We've got a purple wall, next to a moss green wall, next to a salmon colored wall and my soffit (over the cabinets) is called "Sterling Silver" altho, it looks blue with a silverish tint...my back splash was a high gloss mustard yellow.

Ironically, this kitchen was the 'selling point' for our house...we had three offers in a week and the lady who bought it sent us a letter telling us how much she loved it - that she never had the guts to do something like that, but that what we had done fit her lifestyle to a T. I was very glad

I just noticed that you DON'T want green...well, this is part of our kitchen. It is green and a deep cranberry. I love the cranberry color (but, of course, you can't see it in this photo!) Please excuse the clutter - oh my!

And then one of my sweet husband, Tony, giving himself a facial. I could NOT resist posting it as he is the most low maintenance guy ever...and yet, a guy's gotta have a facial, right? If you look closely, you can see that he has one of my headbands in his hair! EEEEK! Don't tell him I posted it!

Our kitchen is Chocolate brown...I love it! I came up with the idea while I was watching the episode of "the Sopranos" when Tony whacked Ralph in the kitchen and the kitchen was chocolate brown...hehehe!
