DNA test

I am adopting from guatemala and 2 months ago we were given a referral. We are still waiting for the US embasy to give the ok for the DNA test. Does this sound correct? Does it normally take that long?

Yes we waited 5 weeks after our POA was in Guatemala to get authorization for DNA and just got the results back this past Saturday (7 weeks from when our POA was in Guatemala).

One our first adoptin was had DNA Authorization is 2 days fromt he time the PoA arrived. On our second adoption it took 8 weeks. I've been noticing more posts about people waiting, so I'm assuming there's a back-log again. I hope you hear something soon!

This seems like a really long time to me. My daughter was born 10/16 and we have had DNA match for a few weeks now. AND we had a problem getting approval for DNA because I signed the forms with my middle name and the embassy didn't want that. SO I had to resign the forms and that cost us one or two extra weeks. Maybe it was just luck, but maybe it is an agency's experience??

We waited 6 weeks for DNA authorization, but I know there are others here who have recently waited longer.

Hope you get some good news soon!

Sorry to have to say, "Welcome to the world of Guatemalan adoption". It's our own embassy that sometimes plays little paperwork games, changing what's required for steps along the way. Not sure if they're just trying to exhert their authority, make it harder for attorneys, or what. That seems like a long time in reality for how long it should really take, but not at all outside the "normal" of this process. It does get discouraging, but you just have to accept such delays as typical and frequent. Sorry. Hope it gets approved and done soon.

Take a look at my timeline, It's UGLY! We accepted our referral on July 25, POA was in Guat by the first part of August and our DNA was taken until Nov 13. The US Embassy denied us 3 times before finally granting auth, and unfortunately I've seen this be the case with lots of families lately! Hope you get some good news soon!

It could sometimes be an agency thing, but I think most of the blame is just the embassy. I've seen great agencies have a lot of trouble and not so great agencies get it super fast (and vice versa). It's just another one of those unpredictable parts of the Guatemalan adoption process.

We sent our POA down on 12/1 and the charge from LabCorp was on my card 12/14. My CW thinks that was "fast", so who knows. We're supposed to have DNA this week I HOPE!
