Heart Will be 18 months on 12/24 and still not walking!

Hi Everyone,

i just wanted to know if any of you have faced this with your children. Evan will be 18 months this coming weekend and he is still not walking. he stands up and holds on to stuff and walks but will not do it on his own. he scoots, was never really a crawler, he is so smart, we don't think there is anything wrong, but we are still a little concerned. any thoughts would be great, thank you!

John will be 15 months on 12/24 and he isn't walking independently yet either. He has a push toy that he runs around with and will even stop, pick it up and change direction. Last night he did take 5 steps all alone but that is the most without holding onto someone or something.

According to the the world health organisation latest milestones chart- walking alone can be as late as 21 months. You can go to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) website and link over the WHO website.

Since your little one is trying to walk and is walking when holding on to things, I would check with your doctor at the next visit, but give it time.

My son was 17.5 months before he began walking. The pediatrician decided to send him for a developmental assessment with early steps. He had low muscle tone and ended up in physical therapy.

I would suggest you discuss it with your pediatrician and just see what he/she has to say. Good luck!

I have 2 bio children and they both started walking after 18 months. I had my second child and 2 months later my first child started walking. How did I do it? Two children under 18months and not walking.

I wouldn't worry for awhile. It sounds like my children. Then one day they start walking and they never look back.

My doctor told me that if Bella wasn't walking by her 18 month check up that we would look at intervention...don't you know she waited until about 3 days before that appointment to start...had me worried!!

Hi
18 months is the tail end of what Infants and Toddlers told me is the "normal" range for walking..sounds like he has good leg strength and is developmentally on target otherwise..

All internationally adopted children qualify for a free evaluation in our state by Infants and Toddlers (Early Intervention)..they have speech therapists, physical therapists etc..

It may ease your mind to have someone come over..they also give ton's of pointers..
Check your phone book under Health Department generally for babies..if age 3 and over it is generally tied in with the public school system..
