There used to be a lengthy thread about adoptions and the Hague, but I don't see it here anymore. Guatadopt.com is a good site that posts updates on what's going on in Guatemala. From what I understand, agencies in the US are going to be taking the better part of 2007 becoming accredited to adopt pursuant to Hague requirements. If Guatemala does not become Hague compliant, the US has already said that her citizens won't be able to adopt from Guatemala. There is some information out there to the effect that if you have filed form I-600, you will be grandfathered in , and the US will honor Guatemalan adoptions.
The biggest unknown, however, is on the Guatemala side. If delays are made while they attempt to become compliant, then there will be a slow down, if not a shut down of the process. The Hague has had this effect on other countries that are never really able to meet their requirements, and the countries never open back up, or very few adoptions occur. At this point, the date for all of this to occur on the US side, is still unclear. My agency has said that adoptions continuing throughout 2007 should be all right, but I don't think anyone knows for sure. All I can say is you are considering Guatemala seriously, then you should move quickly to get paper ready, and try to receive a referral ASAP. Best of luck to you.

I am going through with it. Most likely we won't get a referral until July and yes I'm worried, but my agency keeps telling me they think I'll be fine. I'm waiting to hear something more before I really worry about the referrals.
