Can it be seen in One day?
With or without Baby?

You have to fly up there--the flight is short (about an hour), but once you arrive in Flores, there is a van trip to your lodge. The lodges are rustic, and the electricity goes out at 10 pm. It is possible to go in one day, if you leave at about 4 am. There is a chance of malaria there, so you have to take medication prophylaxis.

We went on our visit trip, without the baby. I think it would be very rough with a baby.

That said, we both were glad we went. It's quite different from GC and Antigua!

Brandee it's a great trip to make. We have some beautiful pictures. We went on our visit trip. The plane is really small but it is a short flight. We got up before the crack to catch the plane and came home the same day. It is a lot of walking and when we went it was hotter than heck. Personally I would never bring a baby. It's too long of a day. I was falling asleep on the bus ride back to the airport myself. I think you would enjoy it more by yourself.

Tikal is a Wonderful place to see. The flights are scheduled from GC to Flores so it can be done in a day...I think it will cost about $250PP for flight and guide. Flight is about 30 minutes, then it is a 1 hour or 1.5 hour drive to the ruins. We stayed overnight in Remate which is halfway between Flores and Tikal, but there were a lot of people doing a day trip to Tikal. I would not worry about taking the anit-malaria pills...you can discuss it with your doc, but I would just bring a lot of heavy duty mosquito repelant and apply liberally.

There's a lot of walking and climbing. I would not bring a baby.Go to the gym and do lots of stairclimber before you go. The most enjoyable part of Tikal is atop of the temples, which is a lot of stair climbinb.
