Posting for forum member: Question about unethical agency & readoption

"I brought home my son a year ago and have done the whole readoption thing and everything else that I could possible do with him. However, the agency we used is VERY unethical and is currently being investigated by the FBI.

My question... Is there ANYTHING that could happen with an investigation that could hinder my keeping my son? I don't think anything would happen since he has been home for a year AND all paperwork has been signed, sealed, and delivered but I just want to be sure."

If you would like to pm this person, please send the pm to me and I will forward it onto them.

Thanks!

I don't have any idea - but I would guess that since the adoption is finalized that you are ok.

The only thing I can think of is if the baby was taken from the bmom illegally - but I don't know what the legalities of all of it would be.

I'll be praying for you! I hope you get a peace about the situation.

My attorney told us this is exactly the reason why readoption is important in the US. It adds an extra layer of protection to your adoption. You should be okay.

Coming from me, not the original poster...

I hadn't thought about the readoption like that, but that is a really good point. We have to go through the readoption, but I feel better about going through it if there is a really good reason to.

question for PhOenix 29

I was just wondering what are they doing that is causing the FBI to investigate and did you have a lot of problems with them through your adoption?

My agency did business with the agency being investigated. I'm under the impression that the FBI is intersted in adoptive parents who have lost their money and have no child. I don't think they are looking at adoptive parents that already have their children home. I hope this makes you feel better.
