Help!!
For those of you who have vast knowledge of the adoption process in Guatemala, I need some help please... We got an e-mail from the embassy on Saturday (11/11). We were so excited; We thougt it was our pre-approval. Instead, we come to find out it is an I-72. They are requesting an original or certified birth certificate of our daughter's biological grandmother. Our attorney has until 12/11/06 to meet this requirement and it is just making me nervous. Especially since I don't know what's going on and what this means??? Does anyone know what this means in terrms of timeframe to get PA? Once our attorney meets the BC requirement, will we get PA immediately after or will we have to wait another 30 days from the time they receive the new BC? Does anyone know? Thanks in advance for your help!!

Don't panic. We had the same problem. The embassy said they issued an I-72 and neither us, our lawyer or agency received the email. A month passed, and by the time I inquired and received the I-72 email, it said something about our application expiring in 24 hours. I was in a panic, but my agency said it's no big deal. Our attorney went in and got an extension.
All the embassy wanted was extra documents. We have a minor birthmother and the embassy was looking for some additional paperwork. The whole thing was settled and we had PA a few weeks later. At least you are dealing with the US side of the adoption. It's easier to correct things on this side than on the Guatemalan side. Good luck. I hope your attorney gets the papers over there quickly so you can move on with your adoption. Rachael

I had a similar issue but with passports rather that BC. I received PA 4 days after they received the documents requested. Hopefully, your lawyer will be quick about getting the documents.

Thank you Rachel and Tracy! I feel much better now. I thought we had to wait another 30 days!!! The wait is so hard. I am glad this forum exists. It's awesome to have the support of other people who have been through it.
Blessings, Ruth
