Question Visited child, Embassy pick-up requirements

Hi Everyone,

I know we have discussed this many times but one last time...

My DH and I have visited our child. What paperwork do we need for the Embassy appointment? Our agency did not give us an affidavit of support to fill out - is that OK? Do we need our last three years taxes and recent pay stubs?

Thank you for helping a nervous parent!

I do not know about the rest of the families that have picked up their baby, we just picked up ours this last week and our embassy appointment was on Wed 11/8 and when it was our turn to go to window 10, all we were asked was when was the last time you saw your child?, our agency told us that we needed the original I17-1H. 2 I600 (not signed),I-864, the last 3 years tax returns copies....we did not need to show anything, same for when we got called to window 8, all she did was have my DH sign 2 forms and we had to raise our right hand and swear to take care of the baby....that was it, the whole process could have taken a total of 5 minutes, we were however at the Embassy for 3 1/2 hours....who ever said that the embassy was like DMV on a payday weekend was not far off, lots and lots of people....I hope this helps....

we had the same situation as TygerLillie.. we brought those things with us, but ended up not needing to show them. Our attorney had all the stuff with her that we had originally sent with our dossier but they say to bring it anyway..safe..not sorry..

You shouldn't need the I-864 or tax returns. I took our (along with most recent pay stubs) just in case.

We weren't asked for any of it.

Technically, if your child is coming home on an IR-3 (meaning that both parents saw the child before the adoption decree was issued), the I-864 Affidavit of Support and three years of tax forms are not required.

However, many agencies advise families to bring these items, plus pay stubs, "just in case". Even though the I-864 is a "bear" to complete, it is really better to have everything and not need it, than not to have everything and find that the Embassy needs to check something.

You can download the I-864 on line. Your agency should be able to advise you about how to complete it.
