OT: curtains
I have a dilemma. In my bedroom I bought dark purple velvet curtains for the sliding glass door. For the other window in the room there was a blind with a matching valance. Well we got new windows over a month ago and today I finally went back to the store where I bought the original curtains (two years ago) to try and get some for the other window. Well they don't carry them anymore. I spent over $100.00 on the other curtains so I don't want to have to completely switch those out too. My questions is can you have two different colors in the same room? What about two different fabrics? I also bought a really nice quilt today that is striped and has purple and many other colors in it. What would you do? Buy another set of velvet curtains in a different color that matches the quilt? or buy a patterened curtain with purple in it? ALthough that could conflict with the quilt. I am not a very good decorator but I have been trying to get the inside of my home to looke nicer and less cluttered. The quilt is so pretty and I have to figure out the curtains. Do you think I will need to go buy all new ones that match or can you mix curtains that are in the same room?

Jennifer,
Although I am not a decorator, I am good at it....not pulling my own chain here.. I have a couple of ideas for you [quote=jenniferw223]I have a dilemma. In my bedroom I bought dark purple velvet curtains for the sliding glass door. For the other window in the room there was a blind with a matching valance. Depending on how wide the valance (fabric) is and how much of a drop (i.e. 84w X 14"-18" deep) there is AND how wide the TWO windows combined are, you could determine whether you have enough fabric to use on both windows. Also how long are the windows?? Can you get a blind to match the one you have? Is there a matchinhg curtain for your quilt? Do you have or even want a bed skirt a bedskirt?? Here's what you could do...take fabric, press flat. You could either use the fabric you have to cover a 3" wide flat rod....sometimes called a Continental rod.. or use it to cover a 12" deep cornice board....often found in a hard vinyl or light wood at Home Depot, Lowes or at some fabric stores....... to go over the blinds....not very expensive and not much work I also bought a really nice quilt today that is striped and has purple and many other colors in it. this will require more expense and a little more work...find velvet curtains in another color, either co-ordinate or contrast, depending on the "statement" you want to make....from you quilt....hang them from a really nice decorative rod at the two windows. Maybe flat panels hung with clips that slide on the rod, there are some great ones out there, then use your valance fabric to to sew a band of about 10-12" on top of the header/top of the new curtain. Buy an additional new curtain, one panel (or two)....sometimes thats how they're sold now...use that fabric to to band the top of the current slider curtain.....kind of a mix and match...hang from same rod, same clips then IF you want or need a bed skirt, these flat panels can be made into bedskirts....I've done it several times.....just a thought all of this might be more than you want to do but it might work....good luck :-) Mimi |

I would try looking on ebay or googling the brand name.
