No particular thing, just their food in general, I guess. The 3rd time I went down, my doctor gave me some antibiotics and I brought my own food, canned soups and crackers, that kind of thing. Never ate at the hotel and I came home well for the first time. Most people don't have issues with the food, but many do. We never drank the water, so it wasn't that.

I have IBS so new foods in general tend to make me sick. I think its a good idea to bring with some snack food that you are used to. My Dr. also gave me a prescription strength medicine in case I got ill. I have heard also to watch our for ice but I never had a problem there.

I was sick because of nerves and the altitude. I was careful about what I ate (no ice, etc). Don't worry about it too much, ask your Doc about Cipro. There are pros and cons about taking Cirpo as a prophylactic (before you get sick).

I was soooooooo sick for 4 days. We narrowed it down to being a drink - coke with ice. A friend of mine who also got sick thinks it was the coke, but I think it was the ice. Either way, I'd stay away from both.

dh and ds were sick on pick up......the entire immediate and extended family and any one else who came to see the baby the first few days got sick a few days later.....nothing they consumed....just a nasty virus! I would suggest some clorox spray or wipes and I would wipe down the room thoroughly upon arrival...i did this when i visited in august and i stayed well...and i didn't think to send it for dh and ds...sad
<<the good news about getting THIS sick was i did lose 10 pounds that i have managed to keep off...so not a total loss > |

I've been there twice. Came home perfectly well the first time, and my Mom and I both came home with "intestinal issues" the second trip. We didn't do anything different than the first time. Do be careful with ice and we even brush our teeth with bottled water. If you have a picky eater, I'd really suggest trying to bring him stuff that will keep like the other poster said. Even though the food is good there, it tastes different and is prepared differently than it is here. Even chicken fingers look and taste different, and we all know kids don't like different.

I forgot to add that for our pu trip I bought one of those mats that you put on the table to put kids' food on in restraunts. I wished I would have brought one on the visit trip. Might keep some germs from getting in the little ones' mouth.

I was really careful about the fruits, vegetables, water & ice, but did get sick my last day. The only thing I could come up with is that I have a habit of getting water in my mouth/drinking when I wash my face in the shower! I caught myself doing it and tried to spit it out (sorry!) but it must have been too late! Fortunately I was only sick a day.
Good luck! |

So, if you shouldn't eat ice...can you ask for bottled water with your meal or a can of soda??
Thanks!! Lisa

We didn't have any problems. I drank water and juice from the bottle and only ate at the Marriott restaurants. I did have a series of hep A shots only because of my medical history. My doc. wanted to make sure I would be safe. I used bottled water when I brushed my teeth and I was very careful not to get any water in my mouth while showering. My DH didn't have the shots and he was fine. He had a very healthy appetite while we were there. The Marriott had a great buffet with lots of fresh juices. He didn't get sick at all---I didn't dare to try the juices so I had ordered bottled water.

Cipro
I had my doctor prescribe a small amount of Cipro to bring "just in case", but we never needed it. Think DH and I both have cast iron stomachs. As long as the water was "agua pura", we drank it. No problems.
No problems with fresh fruit, either. Stuck to bottled water in the hotel room for drinking, teeth brushing, etc. Happy Travelling! Kris |

Yes we were sick!
On visit trip, neither of us got sick. On pick up trip both of us were sick for quite a while once we got home. I don't want to be graphic, but let's just say I assume we both had an intentinal parasite. My husband's lasted about 6 weeks (he went to the Dr after 3 weeks), and mine lasted about 4 weeks. We definitely got a bug from something at the end of our trip. I never had ice in my drinks. Honestly, on our last day we went to the mall by the Westin and we both had a Cinnabon. Yes, Cinnabon! I think that may have been what did it to us.
